Stories told in any media should change an audience - enable it to see the world in a different way or show it a side of the human condition that it may not have seen before. I try to do that with everything I write - while firmly believing that you cannot change anyone unless you first capture and maintain his or her attention. That is where the entertainment comes in. So I try to write funny, dramatic, shocking, thoughtful plays about things and people as they are - and as they were. I try to do that in a way that makes the method of the theater - a live experience that is unique to the moment - not only necessary but vital to the experience of the play. Theater, movies, TV, books are in the "now" business and so each moment must have an immediancy.
