Artistic Statement

I write plays that remind you that you’re not alone. My work can be ugly and unrefined and sometimes it reveals a lack of academic training. But it glitters with rage and it will make you cry in a good way. It will startle you into laughing, into checking to see if the rest of the audience is laughing too, into realizing that everything is ridiculous. Even the sad stuff. Especially the sad stuff. All burdens are lighter when the weight is shared.

My work can also be poetic and beautiful, and filled with magic. I write about how terribly sad I am sometimes; and how happy. I am a queer non-binary person (let me know if you have questions because honestly, same) who is semi-invisibly disabled. Whether I like it or not, my brain and my body have been politicized and so my plays are too. They are guided by a moral compass whose true North is anti-racism, pro-all bodies, and intersectional feminism.

My characters are often melancholy but hopeful queer people who survive the play. They’re not all neurotypical and they’re not all cis. One of them is the moon. One of them is a New York City sewer rat named, with love and reverence, Mange Butt. At the end of the night, I want you to see yourself in a space object or a friendly vermin. To feel just a little more part of something. The most human thing in the world is this desire to be understood - as a half-blind playwright, I hope to help you feel seen.
