Recommendations of Closing Doors

  • Lily Masek: Closing Doors

Very engaging and very real. Makes the reader question what they would do and sympathize with all parties involved in these drills.

  • Macie Despain: Closing Doors

As a future educator, this definitely made me think a lot about the choices I will be forced to make in my classroom. This play shows the audience that the world is not all black and white.

  • Rachel Vasek: Closing Doors

This play was complex and involves the reader in an intellectualization of their own choices when faced with a difficult decision.

I was really intrigued with this play, I didn't think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. I thought both perspective were interesting.

Very investing and interesting play. I couldn't wait to read what was going to be said next.

  • Jazz Neal: Closing Doors

I love the moral ambiguity! Neither party is right or wrong, and that makes for a very interesting story and dynamic between the two characters-- especially when things get personal. It's a touchy subject that I think was handled very well, so... kudos to you!

I thought this was an engaging and well-written play that forces the reader to put themselves in the position of both characters.

  • Lauren Mazoch: Closing Doors

Beautifully written. A time relevant play sure to spark conversations and thoughts on where we are today in dealing with the atrocity of school shootings. This play makes the reader question, "What would you do?"

  • Shelby Curry: Closing Doors

I was fully invested in this 10 minute from the start. Closing Doors presented a true Sophie's choice to the reader and deals with myriad of thought-provoking elements, such as gun violence, empathy, and regret. I found myself questioning what I would do in this situation and reacted as my heart rate spiked at the thought of having to make such a decision, drill or not. I would absolutely recommend this piece.

What a beautiful piece that deals with the apathy, empathy, heartbreak and grief we are facing in classrooms surrounding gun violence--this play hurts in the best way and the empathy of Sandra is so lovely to read--the mental image of the kid locked outside of the door caught in the violence, real or pretend, is stunning. I definitely recommend this piece to any ten minute festival!
