Absolutely charming. The characters pop right off the page. Energy, energy, energy and such lovely calm. A whirlwind of fun and I can see this unwinding on stage down to the perfect sponge cake and Oedipal cake topper. Needed the laugh. Thank you Steven G Martin for this lovely short utterly human play.

There's a real charm about plays that are essentially monologues because one character knows better than to say anything, and this one encapsulates that quite well. It's sweet and tender and honest and true, and quite funny to boot. Also a great closing line.

I had the opportunity to see a terrific production of this at Madlab's Theatre Roulette for 2022 and it was probably (along with a second piece of Steve's called That Moment When...) the most emotionally satisfying one-two punch of the day. Steve's characters take on a life of their own (the spot on performances helped) and at least for me, I wanted to know the fate of these characters desperately instead of just passively watching their stories unfold. They became flesh and blood people for me and that all starts with the wonderful writing.

Wonderfully sweet and heartfelt, Martin has crafted a dynamic duo who come together perfectly for a laugh out loud pre wedding experience. Read while ready to laugh.

I had the pleasure of seeing this performed in the 8th annual Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette 10-min play festival. This was a hysterical play that ended on an extremely touching note. Martin has created a play that would be a delight to perform. Very well done!

Just had the honour of hearing this play as part of a night of zoom readings and IT IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PIECE! Love in all it's beautiful imperfection. Steve writes from the heart with such heart. What's not to love?

I love very single word of this convulsively funny, impeccably truthful play, right up to its perfect closing line. Now let’s all have cake!

Not only did I love this play. I felt seen by this play. The journey into his head, the manic pingpong of emotions. I understand Eddie and love Eddie for it. And I love Richard even more for loving him. What a beautiful story, with wonderful characters. Definitely fun for the actors as well. Great job!

This play is a sheer delight: a slice of heaven in ten minutes. To select a single favorite line would take ages: I'm a personal fan of Aunt Betty, but with dialogue this relatable, sharp, and well-paced, there's a lot to love! Eddie's rabbit hole of concerns about his upcoming wedding are authentic and hilarious without ever becoming pedantic, and Richard treats him with unremitting grace, kindness, and good humor. I'm not sure I've ever loved two characters more in a script!

Steven Martin crafts a nice rise and fall of confidence and uncertainty to which anyone who has been married (or even considered it) can relate. Eddie's ability to take the audience inside his head to share his hopes and fears on the biggest days in his life will keep their attention as they enjoy the ride. Richard says a lot without speaking, a credit to a playwright clearly in control of his characters' arcs. Well done.
