  • Eric Mansfield: FOR RICHARD, FOR POORER

Steven Martin crafts a nice rise and fall of confidence and uncertainty to which anyone who has been married (or even considered it) can relate. Eddie's ability to take the audience inside his head to share his hopes and fears on the biggest days in his life will keep their attention as they enjoy the ride. Richard says a lot without speaking, a credit to a playwright clearly in control of his characters' arcs. Well done.

What a lovely ride. You're not a militant vegetarian. The wondrous, yet clueless Aunt Betty. Wedding jitters and fun wrapped around deep feeling and commitment. Richard and Eddie are going to make it.

OMG! I love Richard! Eddie sells him so well in his manic way. They belong together. They are going to be so happy. I am crying before the wedding even starts. This is such a romantic, funny piece and a great showcase for an actor. Congrats to the happy couple! Farts and all!

As much as Eddie carries on and worries and frets and goes to extremes to display wedding day jitters -- jitters? More like tsunamis -- I have no doubt that the long-suffering and loving Richard is going through the same feelings. But someone has to the the rock, right?

Steven G. Martin's ear for the truth and the love and the meaning is so spot-on. And that cake sounds delicious.

Hilarious and heartfelt. Eddie's monologue would be a real treat to perform live. It's so full of manic energy and he keeps you riveted, wondering where it's all going to end up (and if there really will be a wedding in the end).

What a fun and glorious play! Eddie, Eddie, Eddie - I need to see you in full form on a stage asap. I screamed multiple times throughout the play. "I am a joyful breeze entering a room." SCREAMED! "Marrying me would be like subjecting yourself to Burl Ives singing "Holly Jolly Christmas" nonstop, forever." SCREAMED! The end left me with the most satisfying smile. Rooting for Eddie & Richard!

Funny, sweet and very charming play about wedding jitters, differences and above all, love. Loved it!

  • Hayley St. James: FOR RICHARD, FOR POORER

A neurotic, joyous whirlwind of a love story set in the moments just before Eddie and Richard are set to tie the knot. Eddie’s cold feet are warmed by Richard’s kind heart. A truly lovely ten-minute.

Somewhere in and among Eddie's nervous, neurotic, exasperating pre-wedding ramblings, Steven G. Martin sows the seeds of a deeply moving and authentic love story. Richard is a calming oasis for Eddie's whirlwind energy and it's clear they are actually perfect for each other by the end of the play. Highly recommend!

What's not to love about Eddie? What's not to love about Richard? What's not to love about the love these two have for each other? Steven G. Martin takes this all-too-common situation of having cold feet, and takes on a neurotic and spiraling journey to discover what brought these two people together. The juxtaposition of silence and babble is perfection.
