Recommendations of Eden 2

  • John Busser: Eden 2

11.04.24 - I'd already recommended this piece a while back but I just had to do so again, thanks to the audio version of this I just heard produced on Broken Arts Entertainment's The Future podcast. Morey Norkin's script about beginnings and endings and a God who's, quite frankly, had it with us and isn't about to give us a another chance. Luckily, Morey is a less vengeful creator and with Broken Arts, has given us that chance with this truly entertaining version.

Cathartically written. Morey takes the end of times trope and puts a unique, harsh, and intentionally apathetic spin on God. In Eden 2, you get the familiarity in character stereotypes only to have them offset by the uniqueness of Morey’s version of the heavenly Fa… I mean…. Person. As writers we get to play God through character creation, world building, problem solving, and more. Morey has created a world that is ripe for the making. Awesome show.

Has Norkin set the stage for a new Bible to be written? Or did that not work so well the first time? In a deceptively simple ten-minute, Norkin has given us an epic tale. Tale as old as time? Maybe. The seamless blending of hard truths with beacons of hope and some gosh-darn puns and humor, it’s a play that will leave you lost in space and thought.

  • Paul Donnelly: Eden 2

What we have here is the beginning of a re-creation myth. It's one thing to be responsible for populating Mars, it's quite another to be responsible for repopulating the human race. In the face of the self-imposed destruction of planet earth, will Adam and Eve 2.0 learn the lessons of the past or will they only replicate them? Either way, they won't get much help from the Almighty. Great fun with a powerful underlying message.

Oh, this one is so FUN. Great concept and humor and puns... and it also made me think about climate change and global warming. It really is a brilliant little play. It made me smile... and gave me hope.

Such fun and such a fright. "This is the way the world ends, this is the way the world ends, this is the way the world ends..." A bible lesson EVERYONE should read. Bravo, playwright!

It's deceptively light-hearted. Clever. And sticks like a fish bone in ones throat. Many writers have tackled and will continue to attempt to create work dealing with "end-of-world" themes. Yet few, to my mind, will ever have the talent to write something that is truly effective. And I'm such a sucker for writers who have the cajones to turn Biblical stories inside-out! Nice job, Mr. Norkin. I look forward to reading more of your work!

A futuristic and imaginative reworking of a well-known Bible story! Not exactly the same as its source material, but definitely a more enjoyable read!

  • Arianna Rose: Eden 2

A well-crafted play that is both deadly serious and funny. At times bleak, at times uplifting, playwright Morey Norkin has written a beyond-cautionary tale about beginnings, endings, and exploring both the best and worst of humanity. At least Eve has that Costco membership! Highly recommended. Read and produce.

Highly recommend this for your 10 minute play festival, especially one inspired by the Bible. A surprising spin on the Adam & Eve that iscaptivating line by line. With the lighting and sound effects and costuming, an audience will love this.
