Recommendations of Eden 2

  • Joe Swenson: Eden 2

Excellent read. I’m a huge fan of biblical hyperbole and Morey Norkin takes it to a fantastical level. Weaving a little knowledge, sprinkling some irony there, but ultimately conversing with a deity that has given up on mankind. It’s quirky, smart, funny, and damning. Brilliant work.

The biblical jokes keep coming, to Adam and Eve on Mars, in Morey Norkin’s EDEN 2. I love Eve’s: “And I don’t have anything to go with this awful red hue.” And when the Female Voice of God says: “You know, I really thought the flood was kind of a teaching moment.” EDEN 2 whistles past the big graveyard (the end of the world) while never missing a beat.

God is patient. But only so patient. And after everything is said and done, this final discussion with God and the last of humankind is funny, insightful, and pays off at the end. A fun play, a fun idea, and a fun script!

I recommend this play on the last line alone! But that's me. There's a lot more fun to be had throughout this silly take on starting over. Morey Norkin gives us a clever, joke-filled romp on the Red Planet that had me laughing out loud more than once. I would hope you'll find it just as amusing.

The idea of just starting civilization over again seems encouraging in these troubling times, but Eden 2 offers a grim reminder that human beings can be selfish and myopic. Morey Norkin gives his audience a cautionary tale that ends with the realization that evil might prevail even when we are given a stark message of how we got here in the first place. Wonderful!

Delightful characters, classic sci-fi tropes, and big ideas made buoyant by a very fun wit! This take on the alpha, the omega, and the omnipotent will make audiences laugh and think, while keeping them on the edge of their seats.

I wonder if we don't make cruel gods because, on some level, we desire punishment. Yet still, we need hope. So our cruel gods give us new chances, however small, however horrid. "I shall give you a smile whilst I destroy all you've held dear." Or is it, "Despair comes, and I will gift you hope. So go forth and do better." Gods are tricky in that way, on equal hands amusing and horrible. But most importantly, a "surely" "Shirley" joke is always a winner.

This short is smart, funny, and a good reminder that we're destroying the planet and are in for a world of hurt if we don't course correct immediately (Always nice when an entertaining play can get that message in as well.) A new Adam and Eve have landed on Mars and hopefully won't screw this planet up like they did the last one. The voice of God is perfect, such a great balance between making jokes and hitting these humans with some hard truths. I'd love to see this one live!

Witty, concerning, and poignant....there's that weird OY sound again...I would love to see this smart piece staged. BRAVO.

And the good Lord said: "What Mars needs now, is love, sweet love...." Brilliant! So, cornily named Adam and Eve land on Mars to start life anew, only to be greeted by a female voice god, both sarcastic and all powerful, in this fun and unique short play. Lots to think about here and lots to laugh at too, especially Eve's aversion to the red hue...! I would love to see this play staged!
