  • Shaun Leisher: Hot Dogs and Feminism

It's so rare to see a play that gives any young women so much agency and complex dialogue let alone pre-teens. Sharma beautifully captures what it's like trying to be a kid and intersectional feminist at the same time. Then to throw a heist scene in there??? *chef's kiss*

My experience with improv comedy does not go much further than watching late night episode of Whose Line... on Comedy Central. Those with a deeper knowledge of the art form might appreciate this play in a different way but that knowledge is certainly not needed to appreciate this play's genius. It is clear from the start that Sharma loves improv and knows it can be more inclusive. She helps us see how far this world needs to go and imagines a better one for us.

  • Shaun Leisher: Holy Virgins

How often do teenage girls get to talk about faith and politics like this on stage? Not enough so I'm so glad there are plays like this that allow young women to really break out of the box they've been forced into. I was unfamiliar with so many of the topics these girls were discussing but I was hooked by their passion. This play NEEDS to get in the hands of high school students!!

  • Shaun Leisher: The Best Day

A moving fly on the wall moment between a mother and daughter that ends with a fantastic monologue by a complicated superstar.

  • Shaun Leisher: Star of Lennox

Love how experimental this play is while also feeling so true to the period and genre it's playing in. A musical that's starting a conversation of abusive male artists that is long overdue. So excited to see this staged.

  • Shaun Leisher: Joan of Arc in a Supermarket in California

I am endlessly inspired by how she experiments with theatrical convention and writes these stage directions that seem impossible. A supermarket gets destroyed in this play!! I am even more inspired by the skill she has for writing women (especially young women). This play has these moments Chloe is brilliant at writing wear young women get the opportunity to exorcise the demons inside them and spew their pain to a captive audience. Just like many things in this play, the theatre needs to burn down and when it's rebuilt lets only produce Chloe Xtina's plays!!!

  • Shaun Leisher: Jew Vibing

A single girl trying to find the one is a trope we've definitely seen a lot of of screen and stage but you have to know it will be thrown on its head in the hands of Weingarten. What it means to be a single woman and be Jewish is put under the microscope in this hilarious collection of conversations. Weingarten's plays are absolute gifts to actors and audiences.

  • Shaun Leisher: Next Door

This play definitely didn't go where I expected it to. Even after reading the first act I got the absurdist tone that was happening but nothing could prepare me for what happened next. This is a play about women supporting women to the extreme. I am here for this play!!

  • Shaun Leisher: 1900s Women Bonding

So excited to read Weingarten's unique brand of dialogue in a period setting.

  • Shaun Leisher: Day 761

Lee brilliantly gives us just enough information about this world to ground us but the focus of these pages is on the characters and their relationships. You immediately get their dynamic and what they have been through together without exposition. I would love to see more with these survivors but I think this also works wonderfully as a short play.
