I loved this one act!! It's a meditation on art and sisterhood. People change, disappoint each other and drift apart over the years but there are certain things that keep us connected.

  • Shaun Leisher: BIOGRAPHY OF A CONSTELLATION

What if women were free to be themselves, to tell their own stories, to not be known in relationship to a man or for how well they lived up to gender roles? This play uses the lives of women both mythical and historical to ponder these questions and ask so many more of us. I hope to see this play at an actual planetarium some day. Also, we need more theatre that encourages women in STEM!!

  • Shaun Leisher: Tink

I'm a huge fan of riffs on fairy tales, especially ones that take on the Peter Pan story. It's a fairy tale that is begging to looked at and picked apart. Tinkerbell is the most interesting character in this story so I love the idea of her getting to tell a group of children her side of things. This solo piece explores gender roles, abusive relationships and the loss of child-like wonder in such a beautiful way.

  • Shaun Leisher: good friday

This is a play that will keep you on the edge of your seats and takes you places you never see coming. The overlapping dialogue and natural, yet poetic way these women speak are a true testament to the skills of Colon as an exciting new playwright. Love how this play explores the layers of rape culture and how social media impacts messages and movements.

Will robots replace actors in the future? Well if the opportunities for that are as good as this monologue, I would be OK if they did!

  • Shaun Leisher: Daughter of God

Jovanovich has beautifully crafted this picture of Heaven that is wholly original yet well researched. This play is full of action, political intrigue, romance and lots of humor. It's a play about a big idea but thanks to these fully formed characters and their well written dialogue its an intimate piece that will impact hearts.

Nothing beats well-written slice of life comedies featuring ordinary people in pretty extraordinary situations and Doug Williams kills it with this play. A play both hysterical and heartbreaking that looks at human resilience and the capability of our bodies to do wonderful things.

  • Shaun Leisher: Arbor Falls

This play is both extremely of today while also being timeless. It appears that politics and religion will be strange bedfellows for the foreseeable future and Svich's poetic and at times sparse writing beautifully captures the gravity of that. The role of Preacher is a fantastic flawed hero like many others that populate Svich's plays. What happens when helping others and helping our own are at odds?

  • Shaun Leisher: The World is Ending and Maybe That's Kinda Hot

I wasn't familiar with The Decameron before this play so I can't speak on this play as an adaptation (but now I wanna read The Decameron) but as a allegory for today I think it works really well. Weingarten is really good at writing privileged people and her use of dialogue is brilliant as always. I love how this play explores the elitists belief that wealth and standing can keep them safe (which is definitely something we see today) and morality in medieval Italy. Do this play folks!!!

This is such an important play in our time of religious fanaticism. I love how simple yet how theatrical it is. It's a play that knows it needs to be a play.
