I am not my self an American Jew but I connected with so much here. This play has a lot of important things to say about Jewish identity and the power of social media. This play is very funny but also packs an emotional wallop when it needs to. I loved the breaking of the fourth wall here. Derman makes herself a character that is also trying to figure out her identity and her connection with Israel. I hope this play gets produced. It's a satire that is very relevant and I hope starts some important conversations.

A stunning collection of vignettes depicting what like is like for a variety of people from Malaysia leading up to a historic election. This was a piece of history that I was not aware of before reading this piece. Great theatre should have the power to enlighten and educate. Chin does this while also being extremely entertaining. Some scenes made me laugh. Some scenes broke my heart. Some scenes filled with hope for the idea of people having the right to choose their leaders. This is a great ensemble piece that I hope gets produced very soon.

  • Shaun Leisher: My Beloved, My Axiom

This is such a fun and romantic short play with a killer twist. Jean is such a relatable character and I find myself hoping that she would find her happily ever after. Kantor does a great job at creating awkward situations that are absolutely endearing. The dialogue is absurd and fun. The location does a great job making these meetings believable though they are very silly. This short is perfect for scene work in class or a short play festival. Audiences will eat it up.

  • Shaun Leisher: TEARJERKER

This is such a fun scenario for a short play. What if your tears had the power to heal people? Really made me think how I would react in this situation. I definitely get where Nicky is coming from. It would be hard not to become cold and cynical when everyone only wanted you for your tears. I loved the relationship here. The affection felt authentic especially when they laugh together. I love how Kantor takes their time to reveal the conflict in the play. I was less confused and more deeply intrigued.

  • Shaun Leisher: 37 Origami Bees

I laughed and then got my heart ripped out reading this. I thought I knew what Mina was obsessed about but when I found out what it really was it felt like a wonderful punch in the gut. I love how we are just thrown into the relationship between these two characters. The dialogue does the heavy lifting when it comes to giving us what we need to know when it comes to the history between them. Definitely if you want a chuckle and a tug of the old heartstrings.

  • Shaun Leisher: Cabin 6 Is Not Okay

An absolutely brilliant solo play. This is a play about young people being responsible for other young people. This is a play about the magic of summer camp and how important it is to find a place to feel cool. This is a play where we witness a character's descent into utter madness. This role is a tour-de-force for actors. Johnson does a great job at keeping things tense and mysterious and finding the best ways to reveal information. This is a play that can be done so simply. I'd love to see it produced.

  • Shaun Leisher: Too Close to Earth

I thought I knew where this play was going. I was hooked into this play as a searing commentary on the responsibility that corporations and the ultra-rich have to this planet. The responsibility they have to use their wealth to make this world for future generations and how they are utterly failing. Then something happens and this play becomes something completely different and I loved every second of it. This play becomes about ritual and tradition. It becomes about how religion can impact lives. The ending is a total mindfuck and I hope to see it staged soon.

  • Shaun Leisher: Miss America Pretty

This play is a really smart commentary on the world of beauty pageants that also has a lot to say about the immigrant experience. I was very moved by the tender moments between Cristina and her father as they both try and keep their lives together after the passing of Cristina's mother. I love how wild this play with the Spanish-speaking horse and the magical pageant coach with dubious intentions. There are some bold stage directions here and I really hope theatre company's will produce this piece and put some real resources behind it.

  • Shaun Leisher: APPLE BOTTOM

I have to say that going into this play I did not know very much about BBLs. This play wonderfully captures what it's like to go through that procedure and why women would take the risk. This is a play about body image and the pressure we put on women to look a certain. It's also a play about the ways that white people appropriate the bodies of women of color for their own clout. I was enthralled by this play and was so moved as I learned more and more about these women. This is a brilliant ensemble piece.

  • Shaun Leisher: OCCUPIED

Kantor has brilliantly crafted a play where a setting can mean so many different things while also staying exactly the same. I loved how this play explores so many different tragedies and how it impacts these characters. This is a play that will require a lot from actors but it would be so rewarding to create such a moving piece of theatre. I loved watching these women grow. I loved how much we are able to fill in information from their lives with just their dialogue. There is no time for exposition here and I am all for it.
