I loved this short solo play. A play about a person on a quest for great pants. I can see this play done really simply in a black box or with a big budget. There are stage directions in this play that I'd love to see realized. Seemingly impossible stage directions that I'd love to see a design team play with. The writer wants at least 3 actors to play AL and that really excites me. Are all the AL's male-presenting? Do they all lookalike? How are the lines split up? I'd love to direct this and figure out those questions.

  • Shaun Leisher: Kira Mira Deara

A brilliant scenario with two really interesting characters. A fun way to comment on the true crime craze while also just telling a really sweet story about loss and friendship. This play has some really hilarious moments but has a lot of heart too. I enjoyed not knowing exactly what was going on at first. Byrne does a great job at revealing just enough information right when we need it. I kinda hope Melissa and Michael become friends now. I'd love to see this produced. A fun piece for two actors.

  • Shaun Leisher: A Middle Passage

I'd love to see this short play fully produced. I'd love to see what a creative design team can do with this fast food drive thru. Will it look like our current day fast food restaurants? How will it differ? Man and Woman are just trying to get through their 12 hour shifts as Grandmother is focused on not letting the past be forgotten. I have so many questions about the ending and that's what great theatre is supposed to do.

  • Shaun Leisher: family way

This play left me breathless. A story told in real time, in one location, with two characters, during an extremely intimate moment. This play does not shy away from both the physical and emotional messiness that comes with having an at home abortion. I have read plays about young people having abortions before but never like this one where there is a parent that already has children. This is such a unique perspective. This is a play that needs to be be seen everywhere. It's a feast for actors.

  • Shaun Leisher: Trainers

This is unlike anything I've read before but at its heart it is a classic love story. Set in a future full of political violence two people find and fall for each other. I loved how this play jumps around in time and switches between subjects. I loved the essay-like quality of this piece. This play is so unique and made my director brain go crazy. I'd love to figure out how to stage this piece. How many people would I need? How would the text be assigned? Oswald has brilliantly crafted a directors's dream.

  • Shaun Leisher: ANTON CHEKHOV IS A TASTY SNACK

A razor sharp satire that tears apart the contemporary theatre and it's also a total love letter to Anton Chekhov. At times this play can seem silly or absurd but then a character has a monologue that takes your breath away as you listen to a diatribe on what it's like to be an artist. The female roles are so complex. All these characters want this project to work and it's such fun to see them work together on this piece. This is the kind of theatre that will create dialogue both among the artists and the audiences.

  • Shaun Leisher: Beauty

Plays about estranged siblings reconnecting can seem overdone but Derman finds a way to make it feel so original with this piece. I loved the way that beauty standards are explored in this play. I loved the way these siblings are brutally honest with each other and how much they say to each other without using a single word. Gender and sexuality is looked at in such a unique way here. I loved that Riley is a bi character. We need more bisexual representation onstage. Produce this play.

  • Shaun Leisher: The Innkeepers

Nothing could have prepared me for the places this play went. Parsi masterfully unravels this story as the lies each of these characters hold onto fall apart one by one. A play about a grieving mother who only wants answers. A play about the lengths parents will go to for their children. A play about things never seeming as they really are. A stunning ensemble piece with great roles for actors of color. Nothing happens coincidentally. Nothing feels sloppy or like it is happening only to serve the plot. Everything is believable for these characters.

  • Shaun Leisher: this is a face

K wants so badly to have a new face. They want so badly to no longer look like someone that has deeply hurt them. B is asked to help them. They are reluctant but their love is greater than their hesitance. A love story featuring trans characters that's not about coming out or solely about trauma. The dialogue in this play is so fucking good. I loved the moments where these characters got to dive into memories and give voice to their pasts. I hope this play gets produced all over.

  • Shaun Leisher: Support Group for the Predatory Lesbians Who Want to Have Sex with Your Daughters

Such a satirical look at what it means to be a sexual being. These characters are only human and yet in this group they are made to feel less than for being just that. It takes a new member of the group to see how fucked up this community is. I loved how clear the rules to this world are. O'Dea does a great job at making each character distinct with their own unique wants and desires. These are clearly flawed characters but you can't help but want the best for each of them.
