  • Shaun Leisher: birdland (a tragedy)

A brilliant take on the Jacobean tragedy. A play about the expectations placed on women and the violence they face when they don't live up to them. These three sisters are fascinating characters that struggle with their pasts and futures in strikingly different ways. These are wonderful roles for actresses of any age. Loved how the playwright uses the idea of telling stories as a motif throughout this play. I was gutted by the end. I hope this gets produced.

  • Shaun Leisher: Upon The Rack

A play about ordinary people that get caught up in the messed up nature of capitalism. The future should be limitless for these characters but the American dream comes with a steep price tag for people like Celine and Terrell. I was moved by this look at how debt can impact the level of trust in a relationship. Newton does a great job at showing how debt can impact families of color differently. This is a conversation that needs to be had.

  • Shaun Leisher: Sandbags

A memory play that features a cast of complicated characters. Love how everyone takes a turn in recounting what happens to this community and their crusade against the building of a pipeline. Love how time and reality is played with and how it's not always easy to tell what is accurate. A play that demands audiences to lean in and pay attention. Loved how the setting is used in this play. A house and its objects become a variety of locations. Hope someone produces this play.

  • Shaun Leisher: Birds of North America

An absolute knock-out of a two-hander about the ways we can hurt the ones we love. John and Caitlyn are so different in many ways but they are able to connect with each other through birding. It's in these moments where the silences and half said opinions speak volumes. I love how time progresses in this play. A collection of falls between two people that love but don't always approve of the life the other is leading.

  • Shaun Leisher: LLERMO! or My Big Fat Mexican Apotheosis, with Sincerest Gratitude to Lorca

A play that celebrates queer and fat people. A play about wanting to live life to its fullest. These characters break out of stereotypes and are written with so much nuance. Loved the way time and reality is played with in this play. Hope this gets produced. A great showcase for types of people that aren't seen often on the American stage.

  • Shaun Leisher: poison tree

An experimental play that looks at the way we remember trauma in our lives. Was so moved by what this play has to say about the power of therapy and how it can help us see the story of our lives. This is just such a well-written play. It was thrilling to read and follow the jumps in time and how the actors took on different characters. I would love to see this produced with an adventurous cast of actors and a creative team full of risk-takers.

  • Shaun Leisher: Greetings From Sadsville

I read this play right after reading Greetings From The Moon and the two plays work so well together. It was great to get to revisit these characters 7 years later and see how much they have changed. There lives have definitely gone in different directions than they both thought and Peercy has captured that form of depression really well in this play. This play will break your heart in so many ways. You so badly want these two to be together and the way things end feel so honest and complex.

  • Shaun Leisher: Greetings From The Moon

A reunion on a truly tragic day between two former girlfriends. A death brings them together in Pennsylvania and they use their time together to talk about the past and possible conspiracy theories. These are really complicated women that have a lot of history together and don't shy away from letting the other know what's on their mind. The dialogue in this play is so well-written. I was really moved by this opportunity to watch this reconnection and get to know these characters.

  • Shaun Leisher: Time Waisted

A humorous piece of alternate history that looks at what would happen if a group of female workers got the rights they deserved. The way these women talk about the fair working conditions they have is so refreshing but also tragic when you think about what really happened. The way this play resolves itself will bring a smile to your face. That smile will not last long though when you remember that this is only fiction. A great piece for actresses of a variety of ethnicities.

  • Shaun Leisher: A House With a Broken Swing

Great use of modern technology to tell a good ole ghost story. This play is filled with so much mystery but never did I feel confused or lost as I read it. The writer gives us just enough to be intrigued with what's happening with this play. I'd love to see what a creative team could do with this piece. The use of lighting would be huge for a production of this play. Great short horror play.
