  • Shaun Leisher: Minstrelsy 2.0 or AAVE Ain’t Just a Dialect and Denial Ain’t Just a River in Egypt.

This short play has some really important things to say about internet culture and cultural appropriation. I really liked the ways that the internet were brought alive for the stage. Loved how this was left open to the directors or designers. It felt like the creative use of setting, light, sound and direction could be used to great effect to make the "internet" come to life. The beginning is absolutely brilliant how we see Carmen painstakingly craft her apology. Produce this short play!!

  • Shaun Leisher: Performative

I could not have read this play at a more relevant time as I sit here a day after Tr*mp's second inauguration. This play and the very recent history proves that things were not magically made better when Kamala Harris was made Vice-President. This is a play about optical allyship and the refusal to do the inner work that comes with activism. A play that will help white people see what it truly means to fight for equality.

  • Shaun Leisher: Mothers

Loved this play since I first saw it live in 2019. Moench does a great job of world building in this play. Part 1 feels like I get to listen into a group of mothers as they insult each other always with a smile. It feels like a world much like our own but through bits of dialogue and brilliant sound design things begin to feel different. Part 2 takes a shift and it becomes all about what a person will do to save themselves and their child. I’d love to see this play produced more.

  • Shaun Leisher: Erastes

A play about queer relationships between men of different ages that blends Greek mythology and modern times. Loved all the doubling and getting to figure out how all these plot lines overlap. This is a play about how dangerous the world can be for young gay men that just want to live their lives as openly as possible. I'd love to see this play produced and get to witness the dialogue that it will generate.

  • Shaun Leisher: Welcome to the Taj Palace (motel)

A play with great roles for South Asian actors. A play that looks at race and caste in such a unique way. A play that also looks at sex work as it tells the story of people at this motel. A great ensemble play filled with complex characters. Character that all do what they think is best no matter how much it hurts other people. I loved Sita and how she makes her way in the world. I loved seeing her become independent and stop caring about what others think about her and her profession.

  • Shaun Leisher: a life of luxury

I really dug this play. It's an absurd, fantastical look at 1950s gender roles and even has something to say about the brutality of conversion therapy. The characters are beautifully written and the dialogue sizzles. Loved the ways that puns and other clever wordplay are used in this play. You can't help but feel for these characters and the unfair expectations that are put upon them. This play would be a great challenge for costume and prop designers. Produce this play!!

  • Shaun Leisher: A Fruit Pie for Anita

I really loved this play. A moving and tender look at a famous moment in the fight for gay rights. We remember the bigot who got the pie in her face more than we remember the person who threw it or the people who baked it. This is a humorous look at two activists that feel differently about protest as they come together and put their differences aside. A wonderful piece of historical fiction.

  • Shaun Leisher: National Merit

What an honest and moving portrayal of what teens go through today. Santos does a great job at capturing the pressures of being a high school student. Pressures faced both at school and at home. Loved how each student had their own unique perspective and reason why they want National Merit status. Each student felt relatable. These are great roles for young actors. A play that should be done at colleges all over.

  • Shaun Leisher: Falling

I loved how physical this play is. A play that requires actors to push themselves to their physical limit. This play is not just about an adrenaline junkie. There is something metaphysical that happens to Michelle when she climbs. The levels to which Brenda enables this obsession is so complex and fascinating. Alex is a well=written audience surrogate that helps us get acclimated into this world of climbing. This would be an awesome challenge for a scenic designer.

  • Shaun Leisher: Dante's 2 Train

This play has such a fantastic twist in the end. O'Neal captures the voices of these two (seemingly) different men in such an effective way. The train is such an effective setting. It lulls into false familiarity and then creates some real tension. Great job at playing with our perception of reality.
