  • Shaun Leisher: Beheading Columbus

This is a great play about ancestry and what it means when your whole sense of self is upended. A funny and moving play about two sisters navigating some shocking realizations. Loved all the different interactions with Lana's relatives. Big questions are being asked here in a very intimate way. With how obsessed our culture is with DNA ancestry testing these days, this is a perfect play to produce and stir up some relevant dialogue.

  • Shaun Leisher: DEAD GIRL’S QUINCEAÑERA

I really dug this play. A play about how powerful teenage girls can be. I loved how true crime obsessed this play is and I love it becomes something completely different by the end. This is a play about making it through a dark and insane world. This play features amazing roles for young Latina actresses.

  • Shaun Leisher: The Life You Gave Me

This play is going to stay with me for a long time. A play about writing an honest story while also trying to appeal to audiences. This play says a lot about the modern theatre and the gatekeepers who decide which stories should be told. This play really surprised me and gave me an ending lacking a neat resolution. More plays that ask these kinds of questions need to be produced.

  • Shaun Leisher: Fifty Boxes of Earth

What a wonderful and creative riff on the Dracula story. Loved this play about immigration and being accepted by others. Q and Harker's relationship is a highlight of this play. Loved how complex Jon is when it would be easy to just make him a one-dimensional villain. This should be produced all over.

  • Shaun Leisher: regicide or how i became queen of the damned

A fascinating short piece that is a unique riff on the Scottish Play. A look at what it means to be an ambitious woman.

  • Shaun Leisher: Greenland Air

A fun short play that makes something as mundane as buying Secret Santa gifts into a deep moment. Loved the journey of self-discovery Renelle goes on in so few pages.

  • Shaun Leisher: river phoenix fugue

Love how unique and experimental this play gets. The lack of stage directions is a brilliant choice. It lets us focus on the poetic dialogue and leaves the possibilities endless for directorial choices.

  • Shaun Leisher: LEARNING HOW TO SQUIRT (One-Act Play Version)

I really loved this one-act. So intimate and funny. A lot about sex is discussed in this play that we don't normally see in mainstream media. We need more plays that normalize honest discussions around consent and intimacy. Also loved that there is a sober character in this play.

  • Shaun Leisher: Three Scenes in the Life of a Trotskyist

I really regret not seeing this when it was produced. Boyd brilliantly takes big ideas and organizes them in a way that crafters a wonderful character study. I hope this play gets done all over. Lots of questions are asked in this play. Do people ever really change? I want to see audiences all over grapple with this play and the well-written character of Lev.

  • Shaun Leisher: Color Boy

A beautiful play about overcoming past trauma and learning how to take care of yourself. A celebration of the teaching profession and those that are called into it. Loved how the playwright experiments with time and memory in such an effective way. You won't get any easy answers out of this play but that's what makes it so brilliant. Hope to see this piece produced one day.
