Artistic Statement

It began with action figures. X-men, Power Rangers, G.I. Joe, Barbie, and everything in between. It began with me and these action figures in my room for hours on end, creating stories. We went on many adventures, me and these action figures. There was action, there was drama, there was comedy, and even tragedy. All happening in the active imagination of a 10-year-old. Without ever realizing it, even then, I was creating story.

My name is Cam Torres. I am a playwright and actor living and working in Massachusetts. The first time I put my fingers to computer keys was my junior year of high school. It began with me trying to write novels, or fantasy epics, that would put the adventures I had with my action figures directly onto the page - giving them more life than they ever had in my mind. In 2015, I graduated from Emerson College with a degree in Theater Arts with a concentration in acting, and somewhere between those years I got the idea that maybe I wasn’t a novelist, but a playwright, and thus, I began writing plays.

The style and tone of my work varies from piece to piece, but I would say that I am mostly interested in intimacy; the small moments.

My full length plays lean toward the more dramatic side and my 10-minute plays are usually more comedic. I LOVE collaboration and I feel my writing style is just now forming after 10 plus years writing, and I am incredibly eager to get my work in the room with fellow creatives that believe in the stories I aim to tell.
