  • Pauline David-Sax: The Exhibit

A theatrical and inventive romp that examines the nature of art and art collecting. I loved the way this play combines absurd moments with ones that are deeply affecting. I'd love to see this play staged!

  • Pauline David-Sax: Sunny Days

I love what Hardy does with time jumps and the use of puppetry in this play. The use of Mr./Captain Pickles (and the other puppets as the play progresses) is both entertaining and haunting. While Hardy acknowledges the influence of Mr. Burns, this play stands on its own as an artistic creation. This play deserves further development and production!

  • Pauline David-Sax: Thrive, Or What You Will [an epic]

As someone who read The Discovery of Jeanne Baret by Glynis Ridley, I was thrilled to see how L brought this source material to life. I loved the inventive use of the ensemble of Askers and the multiple Jean/nes. L covers a lot of historical ground while also creating a piece that speaks very much to contemporary audiences. It's a gripping exploration of identity and historiography and sexual politics.

  • Pauline David-Sax: the wild ones

the wild ones is a wild romp. It is fierce and funny and fresh and angry and timely and timeless. The way Femia plays with time and character is brilliant--I can't say more for fear of spoilers. Just read it!

  • Pauline David-Sax: The Book of Magdalene

I had the opportunity to view a filmed version of this piece via Teatro Paraguas. Caridad's writing is so precise--not a word wasted--and the play breathes into the open spaces. It's a haunting and evocative look at connections of all kinds--loving, caretaking, transactional. It's a many-layered piece that is sure to stay vivid in my mind.

  • Pauline David-Sax: OPEN

I had the pleasure of seeing a videotaped production of Open as part of the 2021 Edinburgh Fringe. A richly layered piece about belief in love and magic and the promises we make, both to others and ourselves. Fast-paced while simultaneously digging deep. Great opportunity for both the actor and the sound & lighting designers.

  • Pauline David-Sax: Memories of Overdevelopment

I had the opportunity to watch this reading as produced by the Goodman Theatre (August 2021). I loved the play's sly use of artifice in service of commenting on the ways we look back on--and judge--the past while simultaneously grappling with the events and choices of our current time.

  • Pauline David-Sax: Fabulous Monsters

I had the pleasure of seeing a reading of this play as part of Occupy the Stage 2020 (Women's Theatre Festival). The play crackles with energy and is a moving meditation on feminism, friendship, ambition and aging. I'd love to see a full production!

  • Pauline David-Sax: Webster's Bitch (Full-Length)

I had the pleasure of viewing a reading of this play as part of Occupy The Stage 2020 (Women's Theatre Festival). A funny, thought-provoking and tightly paced play. Great deep-dive into the wacky world of dictionary writing, and a nuanced look at gender politics. Loved it!

  • Pauline David-Sax: The Hystericals

A funny, real and timely play. I loved the pacing and the deftly-drawn characters. It's wonderfully specific while also speaking to a universal need for connection.
