  • Susan Middaugh: Singular of Dice

Suspenseful and compelling. As Ross puts it early in the play, "it leaves me wanting more." Kept wondering who this aggressive woman is and why is she here at this motel playing a very dangerous game with a board game I associate with childhood. There is a visual clue at the opening of the play that figures in the ending. Great title. Produce it!

  • Susan Middaugh: Micronation

Ross gives new meaning to the word easement in this short play when two neighbors disagree about the right to expropriate another's tree. Clever, original, the concept behind Micronation may be the next new thing with its own currency to match.

  • Susan Middaugh: Solicitation

Ross does a good job of leading us down one road where we assume one thing about this encounter. Then he takes us in an entirely different direction. Suspenseful. He went to the School of What Happens Next. Stewart learns a lesson about not following directions.

  • Susan Middaugh: Waverly Place

This play offers a clear sense of place -- a barber shop -- frequented by regulars and a Stranger who sets them on edge. Wonderful poetic imagery and cadence expressed by Pops who calls his gun -- Mr. Do Right. Loved this humorous line about a woman who was marrying for the first time in her late 40s: "She'd say 'I do' at the bus stop if it meant getting a husband.'" Great acting opportunity for a male actor who performs all of these roles.

  • Susan Middaugh: Uncomplicated Bereavement

A chance meeting at a funeral between two strangers turns into a strong connection that helps the bereaved daughter re-enter life and sex. Loved the line by her brother, "Though not perhaps at this moment." Great ending, one that ends in laughter and a dream fulfilled.

  • Susan Middaugh: WEDDING BELL BLUES (a 10 minute comedy)

Excellent back and forth between a pushy mother of the bride and her daughter who is clear about what she wants for her wedding day. Marj has covered all the arguments well. A nice twist to the ending and a good title for this short play.

  • Susan Middaugh: Something True

Jo puts Miki to a love test just before Miki is about to pop the question. When Jo pushes hard for an answer to her question about one true thing, their relationship wavers. Will Miki pass the test?

  • Susan Middaugh: WHAT SOME GIRLS DO FOR MALL GIFT CERTIFICATES

Very sad insight into what poverty looks like, made more terrible because her sister is leading the way. Difficult to see and hear, well rendered, Asher. I'd vote for you.

  • Susan Middaugh: Talk to Me About Home (a ten minute play)

An awkward reunion at first between two former girlhood friends who lost touch with one another and who know each other's vulnerabilities and strengths. A touching shift at the end. Lovely!

  • Susan Middaugh: Lucy Tries Again

All playwrights who are discouraged need a mother like Lucille Ball's. This short play offers a pleasant change from a stage door Mama. Persistence!
