This play is a great take on the classic short story ¨The Lottery¨. I can see it being the perfect choice for short play festivals especially at high schools wanting to bring the story and the history behind it to life. But it is also a great read for anyone who has encountered Shirley Jackson´s work or has an interest in the struggle of female writers in the 20th century.

This is a hilarious and poignant play that I would love to see performed onstage. If you are looking for a ten minute piece, I highly recommend that you give this one a read!
  • Go Like Saints
    26 Mar. 2020
This is a witty, endearing, and sometimes heart-wrenching look at the effects of the second Red Scare on one Hollywood family. The characters are so well written, it is a joy to spend the length of the play with them. And as we do, we are forced to consider what we would do if asked to give up names of our friends and family in order to save our career. GO LIKE SAINTS is a shining example of how a play can be funny and have something important to say. I hope to see a production of it very soon.
  • Fusion and Fallout of the Nuclear Family
    25 Mar. 2020
This is the perfect play for any theatre or university looking for a scientific play with strong female roles. Egdorf has brilliantly brought the Manhattan Project into an inter-generational family drama with an eye towards its implications for future generations. I sincerely hope to see a production of FUSION AND FALLOUT FOR THE NUCLEAR FAMILY soon.
  • Absentia
    21 Mar. 2020
ABSENTIA is a powerful play about love, loss, and the nature of motherhood. Matthews creates a rich world filled with nuanced characters that I am eager to learn more about as the play progresses. I hope that this play gets produced immediately, because I can't wait to see ABSENTIA brought to life on stage.
  • Never Not Once
    28 Jan. 2020
The story of NEVER NOT ONCE unfolds beautifully, with reveals that are surprising and at the same time feel inevitable. This play feels incredibly relevant, nuanced, and thought provoking. I hope theatres will take a look at this play for their upcoming seasons.
  • Laughs in Spanish
    12 Nov. 2019
I had the pleasure of seeing Laughs in Spanish at San Diego Rep’s Latinx New Play Festival. The play certainly delivered on its title. The audience and I were audibly laughing throughout the reading. But the play was not without heart. I genuinely cared for every single character on stage. The mother/daughter relationship in particular moved me to tears. I can see this play being a commercial and critical success in theatres all over the country and I hope to see a full production of it soon.
  • The Christmas Special
    6 Oct. 2019
I know a lot of theatres out there are looking for non traditional plays that take place at Christmas time. If you are looking for an irreverant and hilarious Christmas play that takes on the Me Too movement and Marxism, then you should definitely check this out. Hendel has created a world on stage unlike anything I have ever seen before. I would love to see a full production of this play.
  • DREAM HOU$E
    1 Oct. 2019
I had the pleasure of seeing a Reading of Dream Hou$e at the Latinx New Play Festival at San Diego Rep. This play manages to weave in questions of gentrification, cultural heritage, and family legacy while telling hilarious and heartfelt story of two sisters. With just a dose of magical realism, this is a story that demands to be told onstage. I hope to see a full production of it soon.
  • Bury the Rest
    6 Sep. 2019
BURY THE REST is a nuanced look at the personal and political repercussions of gun violence. This play contains complex characters with compelling arguments and no simple answers. Hillis has managed to take a hot button topic and show thoughtful characters who land solidly on opposite sides of the issue. I had the pleasure of seeing a staged reading of this play at the Seaburry Quinn Jr. Playwrights Festival and I sincerely hope to see a full production of the play soon.
