  • Emily McClain: Martin's Treehouse

I was fortunate enough to hear a reading of this piece and was deeply impacted by the story of childhood trauma and the ways people cope with carrying the emotional baggage from childhood. LGBTQ characters drive the story, along with the non-binary representation and extremely compelling dialogue. It's thought provoking, never shying away from the complexity of grief. Beautiful work!

  • Emily McClain: The Window

A wonderful exploration of an unlikely friendship! We can see ourselves in both Cat and Fish, and appreciate their worldviews that are both humorous and tragic in turns. A truly excellent short play!

  • Emily McClain: The Interior

This one act play is a wild ride in every sense of the word- Skylar is the ultimate "Everyperson" confronted with the horrors of unrelenting nature as well as the horrors of other humans. What an incredible journey for any performer! What a compelling argument against going outside! Ever!

  • Emily McClain: Miss Stump's Got It

I adored the energy and adrenaline rush of the race-to-the-finish aspects of this delightful farce. Enid is a fantasic comic role for actresses and the subject matter is so relatable to anyone who has ever tried to play pub trivia without cheating.
Long live Enid! May she reign as Queen of the Research Desk forever!

  • Emily McClain: Photos with my Rapist: A One-Minute Monologue

The devestating brevity and matter-of-factness in this monologue encapsulates such raw emotional power and it is a searing indictment of the systems of abuse and the silencing of victims.

  • Emily McClain: LA 8 AM (a ten minute play)

It's rare that a 10-minute play will fundamentally shift the way that you view the world and the relationship you have with linear time, but this brilliant piece does just that. You'll never look at a bowl of cereal quite the same way. I'm grateful to have experienced this play.

  • Emily McClain: That Kind of Boy [a 1-minute play]

Steven G Martin is an absolute master of the heart-warming and uplifting play. That Kind Of Boy leans into our fearful expectations but then provides the most wonderful, welcome respite from those expectations. I was touched by this short play and I would love to see it produced! Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: James of Nazareth

This play is a creative and fantastic "Rosencrantz & Gildenstern"-style view of the life of Jesus, as told through the eyes of his younger brother James. The characters and their relationships are so rich and there is so much dramatic potential in the performance as the story careens towards the emotional (and inevitable) conclusion. A completely fresh perspective on "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and one that breathes life into familiar characters. Feriend's keen sense of humor balances the heavy moments expertly. Produce this play!

  • Emily McClain: cara has a hole in her head

This play is speaking to the moment we are in right now. I found myself both horrified at the idea of a "gun violence survivor's camp" and also keenly aware that such a place SHOULD exist simply due to the number of people that need it. The language is direct and the characters are both very present in their need to connect. I appreciated the moments of humor and surreal theatricality (I will certainly never look at hotdog buns quite the same way again!). Excellent, timely work.

  • Emily McClain: Earthling Lover

It's no secret that I adore John Mabey's work- their plays always contain such delightful and genuine characters, heartfelt, funny, and just full of love. This beautiful monologue continues that tradition. Sometimes we can only really see ourselves, fully SEE ourselves, through the eyes of someone a galaxy away. BX's admiration and understanding of humanity, explored so brilliantly through Halloween costume choices, allows us to appreciate our capacity for wonderful things. May we live up to BX19TR33's affection for us.
