  • Emily McClain: Grandmother's House

This is a tense and weighty 10 minute play. From the first moments you realize that Renee is not who she seems, but you hope for a different outcome. The final exchange with a moment of lucidity from Rose and (possible) remorse from Renee lands perfectly. My high school theatre students performed this play as part of a 10-Minute play festival and the roles were challenging but excellently crafted for them. Very engaging work that the audience responded well to!

This short play is an absolute skewering of competitive art and self-important artistic "evaluators." It takes big ideas and wields them for maximum satirical power. My high school theatre students had a blast performing this piece and it was a huge hit with the audience. Wonderful comedic roles for female performers!

  • Emily McClain: Family Tree

This character-driven drama is rich with symbolism and evocative language. I had the pleasure of seeing a reading recently and it resonated deeply with the audience. The treatment of the character with alzheimers was authentic and realistically portrayed without ever straying into melodrama. This is a beautiful and powerful play that I look forward to seeing fully staged!

  • Emily McClain: The Soon-To-Be-Former Ms. Grinch

What a fabulous and fun monologue exploring the untold story of Ms. Grinch! The humorous pacing and use of familiar tunes makes this a great performance choice for a holiday-themed play festival! Great work!

  • Emily McClain: Out, Out Damned Bird!

This play isn't just about a bird. It's a perfect encapsulation of how a woman can be approaching a problem, addressing an issue, or literally rescuing a pigeon and her forward progress is totally upended by a well-intentioned but clueless man. The emotional consequences are only felt by one party-- and spoiler alert! It's not the man. Excellent work!

No one.... and I mean NO ONE.... does poetically powerful and brilliantly evocative dialogue like Emma Goldman-Sherman. This play grabs you by the collar and doesn't let go: laying bare the way women become the enforcers of patriarchal power, the way access to safe and legal abortion is still (absurdly) something that is dependent on your geographic and socio-economic status, and the way we (even "good liberals") fail to stand up and fight for the most essential of human rights- bodily autonomy. There are no easy answers, but staying silent dooms us all. Thank you for this play.

  • Emily McClain: Drive Away

The raw emotional honesty between these two sisters makes the 10 pages fly by, it left me aching for more. I desperately want to know that they're able to break the cycle of abuse and addiction. Berl's masterful reveal of the past events that impact the present circumstances made me literally gasp when I read it. I know these women. I have had these conversations. Beautiful, painful, and so true to life. Produce this play!

  • Emily McClain: The Passport

Oh my heart! The true strength of this short play is the deep love and understanding between the two characters; the dialogue bubbles up from that love in such a beautifully authentic way. This would be an excellent addition to a 10-minute play festival about love and relationships. Excellent work!

  • Emily McClain: To Change a Tampon: How It Is, and How It Should Be

Every person who menstruates has done the "tampon in the sleeve" trick at some point in their lives.... to have that shared-but-unspoken experience be the basis for this brilliant ten minute play is total genius. Hageman skewers masculine squeamishness over menstruation with pitch perfect zeal. Thank you for this hilarious play!

  • Emily McClain: Eunice in Paris: A Nina Simone Play

I was fortunate enough to see Hush Harbor Lab's virtual performance of this beautiful play. Amina McIntyre's retrospective of Nina's life, told through monologue and songs, celebrates the power and richness of Nina Simone's incredible contribution to music and art. You come away with a deep appreciation of her strength. McIntyre's language is sharp and eloquent and it was a wonderful and enlightening play. If you are a fan of Nina (and who isn't?!?!) you will love this play!
