I saw this one at the Rochester Rep in Minnesota several years back. Mark is a Minnesota playwright and his plays are definitely small town, Midwest flavored. In "Benevolent..." his comedic talents are well on display as well. Greatly recommended!

The title is strange, funny and quirky...and the play itself is even more so. Once seen you won't forget this one!

As I write this, "Tastes Like Chicken" is the only play Joe Barnes has on the NPX, and that's too bad. He is a smart, talented, funny playwright whose plays can be completely off the rails and out in left field...and yet remain relevant, wise and witty as well.

Read this play, which is truly one of his best, and then clamor for Joe to post more.

True confessions: I am friends with Amy Tofte, having gotten to know her at the Valdez Last Frontier Theatre Conference. But even if I didn't know Amy, I would still be recommending this play which I saw at the VLFTC a few years ago.

A play about love and addiction, Tofte earns high marks for her abstract style which could easily have pushed the audience away, but instead draws them in. Read "Flesh Eating Tiger" and once you've gotten to know her styles, take a look at Tofte's other work. Amy is a very talented writer.

True confessions: I know Tom and am friends with him. Still, I am friends with a lot of playwrights and only a few of them do I recommend on here. I saw a reading of this play at the Valdez Last Frontier Theatre Conference and it has stuck with me since. Religion and politics mixing with a lot of other issues. Give it a read and get to know Mr. Barna's style.

Mattie is a fine young playwright and this is a great introduction to her work. Because 1) It's a quick read and 2) It's very, very funny!

Sonny is born to be an ice cream man... but what if Sonny doesn't want to be an ice cream man? Okay, it may not really be about selling ice cream, but it's a fun little ride about, well, all sorts of things. Give this play a read and, once you've understood the style, check out some of Mattie's other plays as well.

I saw a reading of this at the Midwest Dramatists Conference and thoroughly enjoyed it. "Hocking Murray" is a comedy that leans towards the dark side, and yet is surprisingly insightful as well. And it's only ten minutes, so give it a read!

I saw this play at the 2018 Last Frontier Theatre Conference and it was probably my favorite piece of theatre for the entire week. Schatzie tackles runaway greed at the highest levels and at the lowest levels and shows us how this current Corporate America culture impacts us all. I recommend this play and do yourself a favor and take a look at some of her other work as well.

True confession: I am friends with Arlitia so maybe I'm a little prejudiced on her behalf? On the other had I am friends with many playwrights but Arlitia's talent stands out. Read this play. And then write to her and ask to see more of her work.
