The date is October 1776. The British evacuated from Boston in March. The rebels are fighting hard in New York and a spy has infiltrated the resistance. It’s costing the colonial forces dearly. A meeting is called at the Beacon Tavern on the Massachusetts North Shore to root out the royal weasel. Notoriously suspicious Anson Kent says he’s close to uncovering the spy but needs more information before being able to identify them. When Anson is killed during the night and the proof vanishes it’s up to the tavern guests to discover who did it and bring the spy to justice.

The thing is, he’s a complete sham. Only those with the Gift can see ghosts and, unlike everyone else at the event, he doesn’t have a lick of the gift at all in his blood. Not one drop. He's desperate to save his failing career and is using this event as a last ditch effort to find to find the deed to the Manor to prove his long-dead mother left it
to him. Over the course of the first few scenes he manages to insult every single member
of his long-dead family until one takes it into their ghostly hands and kills him. When he
returns as a ghost, it's up to him to solve his own murder.

The play was also written for the Quarantine Bake Off and had to include the following: An empty store/stadium/theater, a bottle of hand sanitizer, a virtual dance or duet, a moment of mass panic, a light in the dark, bonus points for flour/flower. The play can be traditionally staged.

Note: This show was originally produced with a different ending. The original never sat well with me. It was truncated from a longer piece and made the situation's punchline into an insensitive one. Since the play worked better as a short, I have rewritten the ending to correct the discrepancies.
