I like crafting stories from real life but also from issues I feel passionate about. As a former psychologist layers of emotional life, the concept of denial and the ability to rise above one's circumstances continue to fascinate me.

My one-woman show, "How to Be a Good Mom...When You've Got a Schizophrenic Mother for a Role Model," reveals my hidden fear of becoming schizophrenic like my mother and passing it on to my future child. Plus, if I did have a child would I do unto my kid the strange things my mother did to me. But, in the end I forgive her and have an epiphany about the true origin of my good parenting skills.

Robert Montenegro, DC Metro Theatre Arts, summarized my play well. "With a title like How to Be a Good Mom… When You’ve Got a Schizophrenic Mother for a Role Model, Pamela Meek’s storytelling piece can seem intimidating at first. But spend 45 minutes with this thoughtful and funny woman and you’ll get to see a performance that really thrives in a Fringe setting. It’s an authentic and honest living memoir of a fascinating life, as well as an informed investigation into the legacy a mother passes on to her daughter." He concluded his article with "As a licensed psychologist in Montgomery County, Meek is able to weave educated expertise into her narrative. It’s an effective approach that might very well teach you a thing or two about psychology. It also leads to several tender and touching moments in which Meek re-explores her childhood armed with the tools of her trade. Her revelations are imbued with universal truths that are both keenly reached and easy to relate to. The title of her show poses a challenging question for Meek. With this performance, she passes with flying colors."

Audience feedback regarding my 10-minute play, "Undecided," about a mother-daughter conversation regarding decisions the 18-year-old has to make before she goes off to college included "It's perfect" and "Handled a heavy topic with humor." Feedback suggested that the audience could see it expanded to a full-length play.

I'm currently working on plays related to years of research on the theme of matriarchy versus patriarchy. The plan is to present a satirical play that will allow those who support patriarchy to laugh at themselves and open the door to the possibility of women being in charge.
