  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Be That As It May

This short play is funny and surprising! It moves at a clip, as you slowly realize that you're not actually watching a professor try to jump out of a building to his death, you're watching an actor playing a professor pretending to jump out of a building to his death - but then you discover that the lives of the actors are even more juicy and dramatic than the play they're in. I'll bet this one goes over amazingly in front of an audience. It's smart and funny from start to finish!

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Portrait of the Artist from the Perspective of his Pears, or Luscious Butts

I stumbled upon this play accidentally, the title convinced me that I had to read it, and I am very pleased with the outcome of these events. This short play is weird in the best sense of the word. It's a dialogue between two pears posing for a still life painting, engaging in wordplay and jokes that any dad would be proud of. I don't think I've ever wanted to see something I read on NPX staged so badly. What a strange and wonderful three pages.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: The Unlawful Abusive Patriarchal Possessive Entitlement of the Motown Sound By Way of the Surrogate Collusion of the Jackson Five (Or, I Want You Back)

What a funny and surprising full length this is! Sam and Nick are writing an article about the Jackson Five song, "I Want You Back," when Sam's life all of a sudden begins morphing into the song, and he doesn't handle it well. Anyone who's been dumped can identify with Sam's moping and self-pity (though hopefully not the stalking...) and anyone who's had to deal with a recently-dumped loved one can identify with Nick and Steph. This play is a fun journey (with a twist at the end!) of life imitating art.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Used Time

Oh my goodness, this play! I love the music and economy of the dialogue as the two characters say their final goodbyes. What a sad, unique, beautiful play.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Engels in the Outfield

A ten minute musical in which Karl Marx tries to heckle baseball players into becoming communists? HERE FOR IT. Tom Moran writes the funniest plays.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: A Day in the News

Ooof, this play. It says so much in just one minute. I could honestly seeing this being turned into a very successful commercial by a gun control advocacy group. It's short and powerful.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: An Awkward Conversation in the Shadow of Mount Moriah

Well, this is delightful. I always wondered what Isaac thought about his dad almost murdering him before God intervened, and now I know. This short play is funny, smart, and a great read. I bet it plays really well in front of an audience, too.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Mission Trip [A One-Minute Play]

I’m always in the mood for a one minute play about Christian hypocrisy! “Mission Trip” tackles a big issue and makes a big point in only one page. Love it.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: Parent / Teacher Night, a Monologue

As a former teacher, this monologue rings so true. Haven't we all fantasized about what we'd actually like to say to parents? Of course, we don't all compose fantasy sentences as fantastic as "Your child lacks the curiosity that God gave a slow carrot." I love this monologue and what it says about education, family life, and how both influence a student's success.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: THE TEAPOT SCANDALS

I am the target audience for a musical about American history, and this one is delightful. The presidency of Warren Harding unfolds as a musical review staged by his wife and members of his administration shortly after his death. It's funny and sharp and a good reminder that no morally bankrupt administration has single-handedly unraveled the country yet. I really enjoyed it.
