Artistic Statement

I write fast paced, urgent plays that challenge traditional structure and linear storytelling. I write about capitalism, betrayal, futurism, and technology-based ethics all from a queer and/or female lens. I write scripts that are equally funny and devastating - using dark comedy to celebrate the simplicity of (while raging against) the mediocrity of the Midwestern Experience.

My plays are grounded in minimalism. My work is flexible, interpretable, and focused on hyper-specific conflict. My work celebrates theatricality and diversity - the abstract and poetic stage directions should give the creative team ample opportunity to put their distinct stamp on a production. No two productions of my plays should look the same.

I want to create work that can flourish with any budget in any space, whether it’s being performed in a theatre or a backyard. I want to create work that consistently breaks the rules on what a stage play can be. Ultimately, I want my work to be a vehicle to feature underrepresented voices and contribute to a new American theatrical canon founded in queerness and diversity.
