Wow! This play is SO powerful, I felt like I needed a recovery period after reading it Based on a a real historical figure it presents a fictional event which will make the audience gulp and ask "What would I do?" Complex and nuanced, vivid and chilling, thought provoking and extremely impactful, it's what theater at it's best is all about.

  • Maripat Allen: THE EIGHT

What a beautiful and moving story about the costs of war, to soldiers and their families, and what we owe our fellow humans, both living and dead. Original, thought provoking, moving, it would be especially meaningful for Veteran's Day, and especially relevant to military families.

  • Maripat Allen: THE MUSIC MADE MAN: DJANGO IN AMERICA

What a fascinating play about a fascinating historical figure! I would love to see this and hear Django's music as well. A double treat!

  • Maripat Allen: BEING ZELENSKYY--A MONOLOGUE

This play is so powerful, heartbreaking, and although on the surface about the war in Ukraine, timeless. In three pages Plummer brings to vivid life a character desperate to make his life meaningful, even if it means the ultimate sacrifice. Very moving.

  • Maripat Allen: Overlook

Wow! This psychological thriller instantly plunged me into the characters' dark worlds and minds, and held me right there until after it ended. Besides being gripping, it has something to say, and does so powerfully through artful story telling. Compellilng, thought provoking, chilling, this would be a great part of any ten minute play festival.

  • Maripat Allen: Roach Revolt

This comedic allegorical play takes on cockroaches' point of view in the war between them and humans. Funny and original, it uses humor to demonstrate the social controls that are used to perpetuate enmity and othering. Both fun and thought provoking, this is a play that will make audiences laugh, while giving them lots to discuss afterward.

  • Maripat Allen: I AM BLACK

Wow! This play deftly pulls off being both hilarious and profound. Jamal, a black college student, comes out to his parents as gay. Turns out they have no problem with that, but are worried he is becoming white! They feel betrayed when he shows interest in white culture, while Jamal just wants to pursue what interests him, while maintaining his identity as a black man. This play asks how one can be part of a subculture and still integrate into a mainstream culture--one that oppressed and enslaved one's people. Loved it!

Wow! What an interesting premise and what a wonderfully creepy execution of it! Original and unpredictable. I'd love to see this staged!

  • Maripat Allen: The Mystical (monologue)

Oh, so creepy! Binz's teenage girl doesn't know what she's gotten in to, but we do. This goth girl is familiar to us but soon becomes a parent's nightmare as her twisted idealism results in the most dire-- but to her, glorious--consequences.

  • Maripat Allen: The Alexander

Oh my God! In ten minutes Mandryk has created such a creepy horror story I need to go out in bright sunshine to shake it off. The plot is diabolically clever, the characters each extremely well drawn, and the bits of humor are masterfully interspersed. AS far as the end . . . be careful what you spy on!
