My pieces are very character driven, as my primary interest is what makes us “tick” as humans. Dialogue is absolutely the main element of my work; my characters talk fast and often, usually until something hits them and they have no choice but to sit with it. It is a very specific tone and style and generally lives somewhere in the “dark comedy” genre. Is it because I’m Italian and used to using humor as a mask for literally everything? Who’s to say. (Yes.) In the midst of the most overwhelming anger and pain I believe there is always humor, and I love shaping it so that we laugh with these characters until we cry with them. The goal is that by the end of the show we as an audience have come to understand what made these characters the way that they are, and perhaps we recognize a little of ourselves in them as well.
