  • H. Avery: armchAIr critic

HA! I did not see the plot twist coming, but I absolutely loved it! Grounded in our very real present conversations about AI, armchAIr critic is about how AI is being used against artists in late stage capitalism, and why. I think all playwrights can relate to Emily, the main character, and I love the supporting character of Christopher as well. Well done!

  • H. Avery: The Disturbance

Eerie and dark, this play sparks a conversation about who is entitled to land, and why? A great two-hander that would fit in nicely with other short plays that pack a punch.

  • H. Avery: Ghost Flushers

Perfect for Halloween! What a fun, immersive, spooky little play! If I ran a theatre, this would absolutely be a top contender for October programming. I'd love to experience it live!

  • H. Avery: The Dotted Line

Through a multitude of timelines and experiences, Martineau skillfully weaves together multiple histories of blind experiences. THE DOTTED LINE is about history, absolutely, but it's also about the present and the culture behind disability. The structure is impressive and engaging, and there is ripe opportunity for a large ensemble of varying abilities. A very memorable piece.

  • H. Avery: The Practice Room

Sweet and compelling, THE PRACTICE ROOM chronicles the relationship between two college aged female instrumentalists. It's a very empowering play, in the sense that their journey starts as one influenced by competition and prestige, and unpacks itself into something ultimately feminine and unifying. A great play!

  • H. Avery: blowhole.

"Standing up for your beliefs is dreadful, tediously lonely business." is one of the greatest lines I've ever read in a play. Hilarious and moving, blowhole is an incredibly relevant piece in 2024. With so many excellent roles for actors of varying ages, this ensemble driven show is sure to please audiences- Highly Recommend!

  • H. Avery: Caveman's Rock

Charming, funny, and unexpected, CAVEMAN'S ROCK is an awesome example of a ten minute play that brings awareness to recent scientific discovery. I highly recommend it!

  • H. Avery: LATE NIGHT SNACK

Dark and eerie, Late Night Snack sparks conversations about how parents have all the power to ignore a child's boundaries. Certainly a topic that is worth exploring, the underlying messaging here is succinct and powerful.

  • H. Avery: ACCIDENTAL ROOMMATES

So so funny! Alles has done a wonderful job depicting maternal family dynamics in this play. Despite the conflict, there's enough levity and wit to make you appreciate your own version of crazy family members. And such excellent roles for older actors too- this is an excellent play!
