  • H. Avery: The Beta

Action packed and weirdly charming, The Beta offers a lot of freedom for the three actors it requires; it's certainly a piece to stretch creative limits. So much of the action is completed silently, and the dynamics between the characters is simultaneously concerning and tender. I was on my edge of my seat the entire read!

  • H. Avery: An Endangered Species

What a cute little play! I loved it!

  • H. Avery: a seussified grindr date

Intrigued by the title, a seussified grindr date has been on my reading list for a long time. And it did not disappoint! What a creative format for documenting this interaction in the characters' lives!

  • H. Avery: LET. HER. RIP.

Really skillfully done. Rader takes the story of Jack the Ripper and entirely flips him on his head, as the play is entirely through the perspective of women. Though there is much heaviness and grief, there is also tenderness, humor, and power behind each of the characters. This is an excellent play for a theatre of any size and I'm sure it would resonate with audiences all over the globe.

  • H. Avery: LATE LEARNING (a full-length play)

Heartwrenching and powerful, this contemporary southern drama is full of dysfunctional familial relationships. It doesn't shy away from ugliness, and in doing so, it leads the audience towards finding compassion for its deeply flawed characters. I think that's the purpose of this play- to build compassion for our past selves and to process generational trauma. Well worth the read!

  • H. Avery: Impossible Theories Of Us

In Impossible Theories of Us, the way that love and connection are able to transfer through technology, through death, and through transition in the play is such a powerful depiction of the human experience. And while Mabey's use of imagery provides a lot of opportunity for very cool technical elements, the tenderness of the piece is what makes it so striking. This is an excellent option for theatres looking to produce a two person play with minimal set that packs a real punch!

  • H. Avery: She Got Better

I love this reimagining of Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood in recovery. I think it's refreshing to see adult women onstage finding space to heal their inner children with each other, and not something people usually feel brave enough to do in real life. I think this play fills a gap in representation of something I haven't quite seen enough of.

  • H. Avery: Burritos Pa' Morir

HILARIOUS. Burritos Pa' Morir had me cracking up the entire script. Not only are there layers upon layers of comedic bits, but the fun character dynamics and the comedically blunt commentary on whiteness really add to the meat of the piece. I'm sure audiences devoured the recent production of it; I'd kill to have seen it!

  • H. Avery: AS I EAT THE WORLD

From the first second, I was captivated. AS I EAT THE WORLD draws from so much life experience and for that reason it is one of the most empathetic plays I've ever encountered. I so wish I can see this live one day!

  • H. Avery: #UsToo

I did not see where this was going from the beginning! #UsToo is unexpectedly gripping and offers a multitude of perspectives on the me too movement.
