Artistic Statement

Susan Hansell began writing for the stage by constructing text for dancers, choreographers, and performance artists, including herself. As a result, stylized movement and physical elements, as well as poetically orchestrated silence and sound, remain theatrical aspects in her plays. Such devices, along with song and tableau, both propel uptempo action and provide moments for pause. Strong visual concepts combine with original uses of language and story-telling structures to create an artistic experience that is both experimental and entertaining.
