I write to tell stories that focus on Black people just living their lives beyond the traumas we
continue to endure. It’s important to me to highlight genuine Black love and joy. My stories are
about relationships, whether romantic, platonic, or familial. I find great
satisfaction in writing about characters who are on a journey to find themselves and own their
uniqueness, whether other people like it or not. Personally, I believe that great storytelling shows
us possibilities beyond the traditional way of living our society has taught us.
