  • The Hallmark Man Card

As the parent of a teenaged male athlete I can say that Hageman gets these characters utterly, utterly right. The dialogue, the situation, their imaginations and the way they eventually rally for their friend (which made me tear up) is all pitch-perfect. I felt like I was there with these boys, who seemed so real to me that it was a little startling when I finished reading and had to remind myself it was a script. I also love the theatricality, humor and structure of the piece. Would make a wonderful production for anyone.
  • Break In
    12 Feb. 2019
I love these two characters and how real they feel, how broken they seem and how they try tentatively to heal each other. Lovely and funny play.
  • Goat-Sucker: A One-Minute Play
    12 Feb. 2019
Terrific one-minute play which has a whole lot to say in its brief time on stage. I'd love to see this performed.
  • Dee
    12 Feb. 2019
A powerful short play that shows us, in just a few carefully selected scenes, just how easily a girl like "Dee," so bright and so promising, can be impeded in the U.S. despite her best efforts to succeed and ultimately, heartbreakingly, to "fit in." I love the wonderfully symbolic yet realistic element of the Ghanaian Mancala game. This is an important play for today that should be read and produced.
  • Runed (a spoof of M.R. James' "Casting the Runes")
    12 Feb. 2019
I was fortunate to see this in Heartland's 10-Minute Play Fest and it's such a funny and wild play. The whole audience was laughing, and it seemed clear that the actors were having an amazing time performing it. Loads of fun.
  • The Sandbox
    12 Feb. 2019
A really beautiful and poetic ten-minute play with marvelous characters and a wonderful and surprising story. I'd love to see this performed.
  • DATE NIGHT?
    10 Feb. 2019
A really bold and provocative short play that requires the audiences to support--or to ignore--a woman who is seemingly being assaulted in their midst. I would love to see this performed!
  • Bloody Mary
    9 Feb. 2019
One thing turns into another very quickly in this taut and haunting short play from Merilo, which is edge-of-your-seat gripping and ultimately, harrowing and heartbreaking. I don't want to give away any spoilers but suffice it to say that this play has much to say about power and the unseen suffering of children. Should be read and produced.
  • SOME AMERICAN DAD: A MONOLOGUE
    9 Feb. 2019
So much is going on in this short monologue--so many different emotions this father is feeling but doesn't quite express, and we can feel all his urgency and pain and fear in what he isn't saying. So well done!
  • Ripped
    9 Feb. 2019
Marvelously complex, incredibly real-feeling play about rape culture and consent that dives fearlessly and utterly successfully into the gray areas. Would love to see this produced.
