Artistic Statement

These are stage adaptations of classic Mark Twain works. Six are currently in circulation (two others are under revision). Five are 10-minute plays and one is a 50-minute play (The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg). The plays can be presented in isolation or in any combination. All of the adaptations try to capture the characters, comedy, tone, theme, and general plot of the originals. The plays had a staged reading in the Mark Twain House auditorium in Hartford, Connecticut, in November, 2016. (The photo shows the cast--14 community theater actors from central Connecticut with director Chris Bushey peeking from the back row.) Individual plays have had staged readings or productions in Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Florida, Missouri, Arizona, Nevada, California, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and France (in translation).
