I was drawn to this one by the title, and OH MY it did not let me down! What happens to all those Canadian girlfriends created by closeted gay men after those men leave the closet? This short play is smart and funny, and doesn't just rest in the joke of there being a retirement home for these women - it moves on. What can a retired Canadian girlfriend do if she's not interested in spending her life in a retirement home? What if she doesn't like any of the options offered to her? This play is great.

This is a hysterical and well-written play about identity and coming out. John Bavoso explores these themes in a truly unique way and succeeds with great comedy and heart.

This play is a delight, and the gentle pokes at Canada and pop culture are spot on. Great use of both humor and advocacy to inspire and remind us to be true to ourselves above all.

What makes this incredibly clever play so special is not only the brilliant comic setup, but ultimately an ending filled with self-determination and possibilities. This little gem of a play goes beyond entertainment to truly inspire.

A creative, imaginative explosion of that old chestnut of the "i have a girlfriend but you can't meet her because she lives in Canada" trope, and boy, does it deliver! John Bavoso gives Tiffany humanity and depth as she deals with being shelved on what is beautifully styled as 'Black Friday' in the closeted fake companions realm. This is layered, nuanced, and fun. Great stuff.

This short piece is grounded in a brilliant premise that takes the reader by surprise, but it then goes to several other interesting places, all the while layering in important questions about societal expectations on sexual orientation. Both screamingly funny and extremely relevant. Observing the characters take charge of their destinies makes for a poignant, satisfying close. I watched a Zoom reading of this play with actors who really dug into the finely textured characters.

A great premise that is a lot of fun to read and imagine being staged.

A fantastic concept well executed as we visit the home of the imaginary girlfriends. So long Rupert, Tiffany's going traveling! Very fun.

This play reminded me of the fun that can be created with a bit of imagination. I hope to someday see this play performed in front of me.
