Recommendations of Red Days

  • Maggie Berendes: Red Days

Rachel Bublitz tells a powerful story that keeps you interested while also raising awareness about the real dangers of climate change. By the end of the play, it really makes you think differently about how we treat our planet. Even though the themes are serious, the strong relationships between the teens and their families help balance the heavier moments. The characters feel real and relatable, which makes the message even more impactful. Overall, it’s an important and meaningful play that I would definitely recommend.

Red Days presents an innovative remark on crisis and the health of our planet. A social commentary with science-fiction elements, the play spins moral dilemma and empathic characters together to create a cautionary tale that calls for action and provokes thought. What cause is too large to fight for? Bublitz proposes this question (among many others) in a gripping story that left me in both alarm and hope. Excellent work.

Red Days is a wonderful play creating commentary on where the world is heading, that is becoming more and more relevant every day. Red Days raises awareness about climate change and where we may end up if we continue going on this trajectory. It also uses the dialogue to teach and encourage people with small things that can make a big difference. It makes you really reflect on our world today and what it could become.

  • Lauren Grace Huserik: Red Days

Red Days is a creatively constructed commentary on our planet's state and how we ignore what happens to it. In a world at a time when climate change is so prevalent, Bublitz's show proves timeless, especially in a world post-COVID-19 pandemic, where the audience, to some extent, understands what the characters are doing. You watch how some people will continue to ignore problem after problem as you follow a mother and daughter with two very different ideas of how to fix our world.

  • Issy Lambert: Red Days

Red Days is a thought provoking play. At first it seems like just a dystopian play but the deeper you look into it represents a lot of current world issues. Red Days is a call to action play that more people in the world need to read. It also has a great theme of finding yourself and fighting for what you believe in. This play is incredibly symbolistic, yet simultaneously straight forward. Rachel Bublitz has done an excellent job crafting not only a play, but a piece of art.

  • Gigi Marceille: Red Days

Red Days explores the relationship dynamics between a mother and a daughter in a beautiful fashion. The state of the environment makes the power struggles between the two that much more intense. By the end of the play, readers are left pondering how the state of the world affects this relationship. Bublitz usage of environmental themes helps create the undertone of the play. Bublitz has crafted a fast-paced read that packs a punch.

This play so wonderfully argues the issues of environmental sustainability without letting you know its making an argument. Rachel Bublitz has built a beautiful story focusing on relationships. Especially post-Covid 19, where the use of masks is becoming a little more regular (for different reasons of course) I would be really interested to see this play produced and the physicalizaton of these masks that are essential to everyday living.

In Red Days, Bublitz does a wonderful job of keeping the reader engaged while also spreading a message warning us of the dangers of global warming. I finished reading with a greater desire to take care of my planet. I think it is an important read. The serious themes are balanced out with thoughtful teen and family relationships. I would highly recommend this play.
