  • Monica Cross: Office Hours (A One Minute Play)

Big Oof! This one-minute play gives us so much! A bedraggled professor, an entitled student, and a drop dead ending! Social commentary meets peak comedy in one minute!

Check out OFFICE HOURS! Well done, Jackie Martin!

  • Monica Cross: Password: 2020 Escape Room [a 1-minute play]

Steven G. Martin's one minute play has become strangely prophetic 2020 is the year that has never ended. Midway through 2022, I am even more convinced of this fact. So No Wonder Steve's intrepid cast of characters feel stuck! This delightful comedy turns very dark as friends try to solve the riddle that will allow them to escape the 2020 escape room! Can you figure it out?

    Bravo, Steve!

  • Monica Cross: So, You've Decided to Fall in Love With Matthew Weaver

They say 'the specific is universal' and that rings true in Matthew Weaver's play. While specifically about a woman who chooses to fall in love with Matthew Weaver, the play hits on universal themes of love and fate. This play is absolutely delightful! It is a joy to read and would be fantastic to see on stage!

  • Monica Cross: Bonus Point [a 1-minute play]

This is a play of horrifying revelations. In just 1-minute, Steven G. Martin shows us a glimpse of humanities future. Simple and effective, there is so much world building in a very short amount of time. Brilliant and unsettling.

    BRAVO, Mr. Martin!

  • Monica Cross: The Closet Door

THE CLOSET DOOR is a beautiful coming out story. Sam Heyman creates an adorable cast of college students who are anxious and uncertain and all just need a big hug. Chip and Brett are each in very different places with regard to their sexuality. Jessica stands in contrast to them both, coming in at a million miles a minute. The sweet and touching ending it earned by all the tension leading up to it.

Great for college students and LGBTQ+ programs! Highly Recommended!

  • Monica Cross: Tropes I Hate: The Title of the Play We're In

Scott Sickles presents a scathing send up of irritating theatrical tropes. In this iteration, we are given everything we need to know to know that we don't want know anything more. The Title of the Play We're In is in fact the title of the play we are in, and Scott makes us dread every minute of it. WELL DONE!

  • Monica Cross: Buckets of Rain

I had the honor of seeing Buckets of Rain in the Hippodrome Theatre's New Works Festival in Gainesville, FL. In this play, Douglas Gearhart gives us two snapshots into a couples lives. Full of tension and conflict, we get two lifetimes of hope and regret in each sentence and half uttered thought. The dialogue feels very real and raw.

And excellent challenge for two actors. Highly Recommended!

  • TREASON AT THE GLOBE is combine the suspense of Noir Detective Stories with the grandiosity of Shakespeare's England. Francis Boyle knows his history and uses it to masterful effect in this tale of intrigue. If you are looking for a play in the larger Shakespeare Dramatic Universe, this is a show for you.

TREASON AT THE GLOBE is a wonderful script, and I would love to see it staged!

  • Monica Cross: 4 Words of Advice (5 minute play)

I have 4 words of advice: GO PRODUCE THIS PLAY!

Elizabeth Giffin Speckman tells us a complete story 4 words at a time. The open-endedness of this piece gives actors the freedom to explore each line and make bold vibrant choices. Great for any short play festival, and ideal for an ensemble looking for a text to devise with.

This is the third installment in the HOW TO TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT ... series, and it continues Prillaman's comic perfection! I got to read Amy in a table read and it was .... Far Out!!! I would love to play her on stage. In fact, all of the characters are great!

Well paced, and delightfully funny. Read this play, PRODUCE THIS PLAY!
