  • Monica Cross: ALONE, ALONE, ALONE, ALONE, ALONE [A 1-MINUTE PLAY]

ALONE, ALONE, ALONE, ALONE, ALONE gets to the heart of the struggle hurt people have in letting others in, even to help. Many will identify with this one minute play. Steven G. Martin has an economy of language in this play the makes way for the emotion behind the words.

    Brilliantly done!

  • Monica Cross: Crescent Moon Circus

This dark fantasy is beautiful and haunting. A mix of urban decay and supernatural circus, the play would be a designers dream. Add to that the brilliant potential for choreography! This show is something special!

I want to direct this play, I want to be in this play, I want to design this play!

  • Monica Cross: Bridge to Reality, Come in Reality

What a timecapsule! BRIDGE TO REALITY, COME IN REALITY takes us back to the 90s and in the era of Fan Zines and Public Access TV. It is funny and heartbreaking as we watch this friendship (and fandom) tested under the strains of growing up. With an assortment of awful callers, we are reminded of the darker side of fan culture.

There is so much nostalgia in this play, especially for this Star Trek Nerd. I would love to see it done, homemade replica of the Enterprise Bridge and all!

  • Monica Cross: The Maltese Walter

Noir-Man can look into your soul. Noir-man knows the seedy underbelly of this city like the back of his hand. Noir-Man causes the lights to dim every time he cuts away to narrate the action. John Minigan's 10-minute play THE MALTESE WALTER is hilarious! With a delightful origin story and fantastic superpower, Walter's only problem is his girlfriend, who wants him to give up his alter ego. This play would be so fun to see and possibly even more fun to produce.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • Monica Cross: Before You Go, a monologue

A beautiful monologue of reassurance and reconciliation. BEFORE YOU GO is a touching tribute to a mother's love. It shows the sort of openness that queer kids should get but is so often denied them. Beautifully written and wonderful companion to it's counterparts in Scott Sickles's PLAYING ON THE PERIPHERY.

    Absolutely lovely!

  • Monica Cross: Music and God

I loved Hillary Bluestein-Lyons's MARCIE AND PATTY ARE GETTING MARRIED, and Scott Sickles keeps the magic going with his sequel MUSIC AND GOD! A beautiful look at the Peanuts characters all grown up, this play is so incredibly heartwarming. With classic Scott Sickles flare, this play will have you snoopy dancing in the aisles!

    BRAVO BRAVO!

  • Monica Cross: Breaking the Shakespeare Code

Breathtaking! BREAKING THE SHAKESPEARE CODE has an electric energy running right through it. Two people alone in a rehearsal hall making breakthroughs about Shakespeare, acting, and themselves. Told in three scenes, this spans 16 years and shows us how powerful the connects we make in theatre can be.

If you are looking for a two-hander, this is the script for you!

  • Monica Cross: When the Heart is Freed

As the author of the piece that inspired this play, I must say: I LOVE IT!!! Picking up after the events of my play THE CAGE WHICH HOLDS A HEART, DC Cathro's WHEN THE HEART IS FREED works beautifully as a sequel and as a stand alone play. This play is dark and funny and touching all the same time -- a DC standard!
The revelations of details in this investigation into a bizarre death create an increasing unsettling picture in the minds of readers and audiences. It is incredibly captivating!
I love it, DC! Thank you!

  • Monica Cross: Romeo & Her Sister

GIVE IT UP FOR CUSHMANIA!!! Jillian Blevins writes about the remarkable Cushman Sisters in her play ROMEO & HER SISTER. This play highlights queer history, explores female friendship, and teaches us that we all need to study more of the language of flowers. This is a fast-paced play with betrayals, scandals, and illuminating discussions of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Each character in this play would be a dream for any actor, and the design (a victorian theatre and stunning costumes) would be project any designer would love to sink their teeth into.

  • Monica Cross: 5 Stages of Applications and Grief: A Monologue

BRUTAL! Cole Hunter Dzubak encapsulates the helplessness of awaiting decisions on grad school applications. Billy's journey from optimism to despair is a biting criticism of the industry of academia. You go on this journey with Billy, and at the end of it, we all want to cry in the bathtub. This is a great monologue for a young actor.

    Well done!
