  • Monica Cross: Roguish Machine

This is a playful look at a lot very serious anxieties. "Roguish Machine" uses the industrial revolution to discuss the concerns of disappearing jobs in our current economic climate. This play literally reaches out to the audience and in doing so demands that we all make these choices for ourselves right along side the characters. All of Hirsch's characters are vibrant and complex. They face difficult decisions and each discovers what will be the thing that will call them to fight back or break. Absolutely Beautiful!

This is a delightful play. Weaver sets up two very good friends who care deeply for each other. In this 10-minute play we get a whole history of friendship, as they try to negotiate this one little physical act. But more than being physical with one another this play is about begin open with one another, emotionally.

  • Monica Cross: HER SINGULARITY (15 pages)

Her Singularity is a great short sci-fi play! Haigney creates an incredibly compelling A.I., after all she was programmed to be, right? As the callous scientists underestimate their own creation, Sofia, the android created to be the perfect woman, takes to her programming too well. This play is funny and thought provoking. A delightful read. I would love to see it performed!

  • Monica Cross: /ärt/

/ärt/ is a cute satire about art competitions, and elementary school. Martin uses over the top characters and extreme circumstances to turn a lens on the ways we think about kids and art and kids' art. The hot headed teachers are counterpoised with children who resist attempts to turn their classroom drawings into high art. These two little girls prove that the best art is collaborative, and reject the divisiveness of the competition. What a delightful short play!

PRODUCE THIS PLAY NOW! This is such a compelling, heartbreaking, and yet hopeful play. Her Own Devices has a stellar cast of characters and so many interesting facets for designers and choreographers to explore.

Madeleine's journey is empowering; the Robot is adorably relateable; Boyle is an amazing villain; Alayna is super sympathetic; and George is a powerhouse! There is a mass of arms that weave a dance through the laboratory, and the King of Germs worming his way into Madeleine's nightmares.

Big questions about existential angst are eloquently packaged in toy robots and unethical...

  • Monica Cross: The Tasters

I had the opportunity read the part of Sawyer in a reading at the Comparative Drama Conference in April 2019. This script is beautiful and thought provoking. The characters have a complex richness to them and the world of this play is very unsettling. This play takes a gorgeous look at what the compromises we make and the moments when we have to stand up say "Enough is enough!" If you have the opportunity, produce this play now!

  • Monica Cross: One Fall Over and the Whole Thing Go

This is such a fun play! I had the privilege of directing this piece for the 4x6 festival in Tampa, Fl. This play is witty, and Matt Cowley has an amazing command of language. This fast paced heist gone to hell presents delightful twists and turns! You can't be sure where this is going until the very end.
