  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Gratitude 4

Sherry Kramer probably still says that every play takes us closer to death, and surely that's true for Gratitude 4, a play on the word and a number. Prillaman offers us gratitude for life itself in 1 minute. Just thinking of the sound cues that this will inspire gives me joy!

Ah, I remember it well! Smoking! This play takes me back to the 23 years of my life I lived as a smoker and the pleasure of every first drag. The sensory elements make this such an enjoyable experience that would be super for acting classes to use as well as for audiences in general. I highly recommend this brief look at something to be grateful for, the kindness of strangers.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Davy & Stu

Dark and fabulous, from the fables of the bog, 2 teen boys dare each other toward bravery in a dangerous world surrounded by the open sexuality of their hetero-adults and the desperate ideas of what is or isn't safe, this play pulls us deeper and closer into the bog to show us how terribly hard it can be to connect with a person in a forbidden way even in spite of strong desire, the world (here the bog and its demons) must be addressed first. Beautiful work!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: the most brave girl in the whole wide world

Not much makes me want to cry but this sure did. I highly recommend this play, not only because it is urgent and necessary, but also because it's so relatable and real. Every moment of it works. A great piece to study if you're looking for what works. And it works so beautifully because of what isn't written. Mabey gives us room to fill in all the unspeakables from our own emotional reservoirs to remind us how human we are. That's what makes theatre great.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: FINDING HELP (a 10 minute play)

Such a funny piece with 3 great roles that are very distinct. I love how charming the aide is, and how so many of my expectations were overturned as this examines how hard it can be to give in to reality. Well done!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: I'm Not Trying to be Mean … But

Such a funny piece! When Sam goes up against her inner critic, she faces all the different characters of her past and triumphs! I love how strong she is. This is also a really super piece for an actor who can play several roles. Well done!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Trash Lord: Domestication

One of the most brilliant plays ever written. The language is honest and visual and excoriating. The use of the audience is fantastic. I would love to see this play live onstage. The science is grounded in the onstage need of the character and necessary for the play and also fascinating. We are wild creatures made even more complex by our social norms, scars and psychology. Wonderful work!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Martin's Treehouse

A super-fantastic play about coming to terms with death. For All Ages! LGBTQIA+!!!!! This is such a supremely relatable play! I wish it was around when I was a kid. Bluestein-Lyons knows kids and has a great ear for dialogue. I really appreciate her humor and her plotting with fabulous dramaturgical doubling that works beautifully. A gift of a play!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: A PICTURE OF TWO BOYS

A truly sumptious and complex play that deals with how trauma impacts friendship and whether or not relationships can survive. Malakhow teaches us a lot about the dramaturgy of time here. This is a very exciting play to read, and I hope I get the opportunity to see it staged! The drowning is especially theatrical, and the whole thing is truly beautifully crafted. READ IT. PRODUCE IT. Give us this play!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: when we breathe

A stunningly beautiful evocation through incredible language the most theatrical story of Navajo legend become personal, moving, urgent plea for humanity to recognize each other. A play that must be produced. A play for all time. A play of Shakespearean proportions. A play that sings and silences and spontaneously could heal us all.
