  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: AFFINITY LUNCH MINUTES

It is so important that we are all made aware of white privilege so that we can realize the inequities and change them, and Malakhow's Affinity Lunch Minutes is a marvelous way to hold the mirror up to this. I grew up in Penn Valley in a private school and recognize the world he's built to a tee! The verisimilitude and the drama put our blind liberalism on brilliant display! Kudos! I hope it is produced soon and often!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: The Wicked One

The Wicked One is a stunning play filled with beautiful scenes full of pathos and love. I loved the use of the masked figures and would love to see this staged. The roles are tremendous, nuanced and complex, actor-dreams! This is one of the most lyrical and intense dramas I've read in a long time.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Vagina of Vengeance

I often wonder why people say they don't have time to write recommendations on NPX. HOW SAD! Because they are missing plays like VAGINA OF VENGEANCE. I am grateful to Tiffany Antone for her bizarre sense of humor and her fabulous comic timing and her thrilling imagination! From now one I will make more time to read more plays on NPX because THIS IS INSPIRATIONAL! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLAY! ! ! ! !

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: SETTLEMENTS

As a playwright who lived this experience with a play that I wrote based on my travels in Gaza and the West Bank of Palestine during the first Intifada (now a period piece), I find SETTLEMENTS to be spot on, pitch perfect in exposing the corporate realities of most American theatres. Rozin writes with compassion - the characters are never 1-dimensional - and humor that helps these realities go down even as he breaks our hearts and reminds us of the limits of our art.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Grown-Ass Louis

LOVE LOVE LOVE this PLAY! Grown-Ass Louis is someone we can all care deeply for! The language is great and the images just keep coming from the balloon with the manila card to the monogrammed robes to the dolphin, the images create the specificity that torments us into entering this world deeply and fully and therefore we have to feel. So there.

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: When Briseis Met Chryseis, Or: Love in a Time of Human Trafficking

I love the Ancient Greeks! This retelling/reinterpretation of the story of Briseis and Chryseis is beautiful. We need all the female perspectives on war, rape, and human trafficking that we can get! So I am thrilled to recommend this one-act for its strong dramaturgical arc, exciting relationships, and the dialogue at the end is incredibly moving!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: #yesmeansyes

I love this fabulous play about consent. I think directors will love to direct it, and there are so many ways to be in it, it should be a lot of fun to perform and simple to produce. It would be great for high schools and also a wonderful addition to any 1-MInute Play Festival!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: And Vaster

A witty and wonderful play about our choices and the consequences they bring. I found the characters to be well conceived and the roles, especially the female roles, complex and meaty! I love the sex positivity in an older couple too!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: Theresa's Breasts

The most wonderful play! I'm blown away by Palmer's use of language & her abstractions that work to bring us closer to the piece, to defamiliarize it and make us lean in. I love the story! I identify w/ Theresa in so many ways I feel as if Palmer has put me onstage in a very naked state. She exposes how trapped we are in our histories and learned binary thinking and bodies! The attempts the characters make to free themselves sing to me of possibility and hope! Thank you forever for writing this play!

  • Emma Goldman-Sherman: I DREAM BEFORE I TAKE THE STAND

What a stunning and necessary play! I love it! It will unfortunately always be completely contemporary and timely and brilliant. It is also something directors will all love to direct. Forever. It is absolutely compelling and intense. It is an instant classic that should be done everywhere all the time. We live in a barbaric world. This is better than Kafka.
