  • Shaun Leisher: The Murder of Harold French

An absurd little play that kept me guessing from beginning to end. Love how the playwright doesn't explain this world or its rules or why they talk they way they do. Just goes all in.

  • Shaun Leisher: Close to Home

I really loved the fact that they are building an actual house during this play while these three characters are building a home together. So often plays that feature trans characters is all about the struggles and hardships only they are going through. Yasmin is really good at showing how we all have our issues and no matter who we are we can learn from each other and help each other heal.

  • Shaun Leisher: ¡Mamágua!

A horror comedy with a good bit of religious fanaticism. There is so much to reflect and ponder on here and be uncomfortable about but I love that it ends with so much joy!!!

  • Shaun Leisher: The Devils Between Us

A fantastic addition to the canon of Southern Theatre. A play about a trans person that isn't about them transitioning or coming out. Trans people deal with other things like having to bury their father. Such an intimate play with rich characters that have deep ties with each other. No one is good or evil here. Everyone is just doing their best.

  • Shaun Leisher: Generation Red

A wildly imaginative play about the future that touches on so much we deal with today. Loved the way escapism is looked at and used to hide truths from these characters both from their parents and themselves. I can't wait to see this fully produced.

  • Shaun Leisher: this is how a fire spreads

An epic piece of poetic theatre that takes a unique look at generational trauma and the need to feel something. An exciting piece for a fearless cast of female actors with so many possibilities for stage design.

  • Shaun Leisher: i didn't make this

I really appreciated the specificity of this play. Love how it is unapologetically about Boston and the struggles the city is going through. This is a fascinating look not just about gentrification but about the artistic process and how BIPOC artists are forced to market themselves in not always the most authentic ways. A great ensemble piece for dancer/actors.

  • Shaun Leisher: The Long White Line

This would work really well as a radio play or some kind audio/visual live experience. It's a terrifying piece with so much potential for stage magic.

  • Shaun Leisher: The Image of the Black Madonna of Candelaria

A play that really feels more like a ritual. Wonderful use of theatre magic to tell this story of pain and suffering but also hope. I felt like I was reading a piece of theatre that really takes us back to the origins of this art form. The technology has changed but in the end it's all about telling a great story.

  • Shaun Leisher: Abundancia

This play is a pressure cooker that builds to a final moment of rage. It's a family play in the tradition of Miller, O' Neill and Steinbeck but told through the eyes of those that are so often excluded from those narratives. The genius of this plays comes in the moments of music and dance. Choreography beautifully represents the passing of time and the monotony of life at this time in Cuba. The tension building is so effective. I am honored to have spent time with this family and hope the best for them.
