This play definitely did not go into the direction I thought it would. What if faith in the afterlife and theoretical science were the same thing? Is what we believe about where we go after the death the dealbreaker in relationships many think it is? This 10 minute play poses these questions as two versions of a couple wrestle with their core beliefs both in the hypothetical and in reality. The way the time changes is so effective and it's hard not to connect with these characters.

I really dug this short play. Makes you look at a terrible night in American history in a new way while also finding ways to be hopeful about humanity. All that in 10 minutes!!

  • Shaun Leisher: Church Hurt

I connected with this play deeply. I know this church. I know these people. This is a play for all those out there that have struggled with having faith without condoning the hurt the Church has done. Frauenhoffer has written 3 excellent characters that are in no way stereotypes. They are so complex and rich characters. You may not agree with everything they do but you understand why. A generation of people that were indoctrinated by the Church and purity culture are coming out and expressing their hurts. I'm so glad we have plays like this to talk about it.

  • Shaun Leisher: oh to be pure again

At a time where so much is being said as we reflect on the harm done by the Church’s obsession with shame-based sexual purity, this play adds a story that gives no easy answers. It doesn’t ridicule Christianity and none of these characters are stereotypical in any way. The young women in this play are giving the chance to question and wrestle with what they believe. This play is a gripping character study with an ending that signals destruction and the beauty of creating something new.

  • This play was a complete punch to the gut. The way this play looks at female friendship through the lenses of class and economic privilege is so fascinating. It makes us long for those relationships that drifted away and regret the ones that we might have made a mess of. It's about what we sacrifice for those we love even if that means using others. This play is so nuanced and the characters are so complex that it will stick with you for a long time after seeing it.

  • I really enjoyed reading this play and how it explores the way feminism has always profited off of. It really leaves you thinking how we are all complicit in this messed up cycle. Also very excited that it's a large cast for women and centers the stories of women of color and queer women. Can't wait to see this play produced.

  • Shaun Leisher: I LOVE SEAN

This is such a refreshing and wild play that I hope gets produced all over. An experimental look at our culture's current obsession with shows like The Bachelor and the timeless obsession with only seeing our lives in comparison to others. It's a pressure so many relate to but really one that haunts women and I'm glad that Sarah Einspanier is giving voice to that in such a funny and heartbreaking way.

  • Shaun Leisher: Lunch Bunch

This is such a unique take on the workplace comedy that perfectly captures how one must find joy in seemingly little things to survive a soul sucking job. The dialogue and cast of characters are delightful.
Einspanier includes the perfect blend of existential dread and absurd comedy that will make you laugh at the foreignness and cry in recognition.

  • Shaun Leisher: BURY ME IN MY LEGGINGS

Writing art that captures the early 2000s is no easy feat but McCarthy does it. The iPhone is just on the horizon and about to change everything, including how we deal with people and our own self-care. I loved this look at the faux earnestness of corporate/retail culture soooooo much. This play does not go places you expect it to and only gives the audience just the information it needs. These characters are wonderfully crafted and I really hope to see actors inhabit them on stage very soon.

  • Shaun Leisher: YOU ARE GLOWING

This play is beautifully crafted in the way it provides the audience with brief snapshots as a mother and daughter deal with a death of a husband and father in very different and destructive ways. Folks are going to have many questions throughout this play but I'm so glad the writer doesn't answer them and instead lets these characters just be their messy selves.
