Really dig the dynamics crafted here between these two brothers. This play is such a thoughtful and nuanced look at addiction and the responsibility of family to take care of their own. The framing device of 9/11 is super effective.

The rampant problem of sexual assault of young women by band members in the pop punk scene has been uncovered in recent years and I think this play does a good job at putting a human face on this issue. The character of Veronica has been created to give a face to these exploited fans and how they worship these predators. It goes into some really complicated places and asks questions about whether or not speaking up is worth sacrificing fame. Excellent one act that sparks some much needed conversations.

If you need to experience theatre that so perfectly reflects the way real life people of the 21st century speak and the things that deeply concern them, look no further than the plays of Catherine Weingarten. Weingarten's characters are enigmas and the ones in this play are no different. I found this play hysterical and yet so disturbing as we get a look into the lives of these two women who are desperate to simply appear that they have it all together. A feast for actors!!!

  • Shaun Leisher: Las Marthas

This play is a pure poetic pageant filled with vibrant visuals but never strays from the intimacy and truth of its characters. This is not a story we hear about the border. These are not the kinds of Latinx people that populate stages the majority of the time. This is the story of elite families and never veers into stereotypes revolving around immigration and violence. The conversations being had about racism and colorism within the Latinx community are so necessary, complex and well-researched.

Very often when storytellers are dabbling in the horror genre they are using the tropes of said genre to make some extremely nuanced commentary on a critical social issue. This play does that and does it soooo well. Let’s hope in reality it doesn’t take catastrophic weather and syncing of cycles on a global scale for our society to stop shaming people that menstruate but while that still happens plays like this one need to be produced. Rosenberg balances the body horror and dark comedy with tender scenes of connection in crafting a truly moving piece of theatre.

  • Shaun Leisher: Penelope Clefts Herself in Two Along an Invisible Line, or, The Penelepussy

I found it absolutely brilliant of the writer to use a myth that is at its core about what it means to be masculine and feminine to explore what the experiences of trans women. The way this piece flows and the inteludes that revolve around "the power of pussy" made it such a delight to read. We need work like this where trans characters aren't only coming out or being used as victims but are going on their own journeys of self-discovery.

The beautiful poetry mixed with the biting satire make this a play (and a playwright) that should be on everyone’s radar.

  • This play is so good and I really dig the opening and how it gives a “play-within-a-play” vibe!!! Everything the playwright is saying in the beginning about the lack of relatable age appropriate roles for acting students to work on feels so authentic and needs to be said. Gelfman saw what women her age were talking about and wrote a play that will engage all audiences. The character development, dialogue and pacing work really well in this piece of theatre about hookup culture that feels so fresh and exciting. Produce this play!!! Especially in colleges and universities!!

  • This was such an enjoyable and fascinating historical docudrama to read. It feels so well researched but Jamerson has also done such a great job taking creative license to craft an emotionally gripping story. This is a play about the extremes of obsession in the form of a little known historical account. Produce this play!!

  • This short play definitely didn't go where I thought it would and had some really deep things to say about death in such a short time. Really like these characters and I think the absurd physical comedy works really well even with such serious subject matter.
