  • Lainie Vansant: The Great Gaffe

O'Grady illuminates a fascinating moment from a footnote in history in this taught ten-minute play. Lit nerds will rejoice at the dramatic irony and tense foreshadowing layered throughout this piece.

  • Lainie Vansant: The Consul, The Tramp, and America's Sweetheart

This play offers a very informative look at a hidden part of US cultural history. I learned about some fun, firey women dealing with the politics behind making movies in the midst of major ethical struggles.

  • Lainie Vansant: Telling of the Bees

A complex and deeply felt look at rural life and the vulnerability of grief. There's a lot of love and a lot of pain in this piece.

  • Lainie Vansant: Alien of Extraordinary Ability

This imaginative play spans a wide and expansive variety of times and topics, leaving the audience with lots to think about from a variety of perspectives. I got to see a staged reading hosted by the GPTC New Play Conference, and it was moving and delightful.

  • Lainie Vansant: Being Black Outside

I had the pleasure of watching a Zoom reading of this play at the GPTC New Plays Conference, and it had the audience ROARING with laughter. It also tackles a ton of important issues and provides a tour-de-force acting opportunity for the two Black women at its center. This is a fun, elevated, take on horror and apocalyptic movies that asks what we're doing right now to make the real world better. It's a fun and thoughtful ride.

  • Lainie Vansant: Pivot

I had the pleasure of seeing a reading of this play at the GPTC New Plays Conference, and it had the audience rolling with laughter! At times it's dark, thoughtful, and important, but most of all, it's hilarious and it shows a lot of empathy for rural folks despite their flaws. Check it out!

  • Lainie Vansant: burn for You

This play felt incredibly brutal and incredibly true. It brings up big questions about faith, love, and relationships without offering any thin, pat answers for its audience. I had the opportunity to see a reading streamed by the GPTC New Plays Conference, and it was a moving, beautiful experience. This show is more than ready for a full production -- someone make it happen!

I had the pleasure of seeing a reading of this play streamed by the Great Plains Theatre Conference, and it was a hoot! Mickere has worked in some great, thoughtful commentary alongside campy absurdist fun in this piece. Plus, it's full of delightful and varied roles for women. Check it out!

  • Lainie Vansant: Jane, Queen's Foole

A fascinating, complex piece of theatre. Blatner has rescued Jane from a forgotten corner of history and given her life in this rich piece.
