I had the pleasure of seeing this play at Steppenwolf this summer. It was a very fun breath of fresh air. I don't want to give a way spoilers but there is a lot for two older women to play with found within this script. I also appreciate that it strayed away from unnecessary stereotypes that we unfortunately see everywhere in the media.

This is a beautiful, funny, sad, heartwarming, and hope inspiring play. Thomas' voice comes across so clearly in the stage directions and dialogue that it's an added bonus to his fans (of which I am one), but the characters, plot, and discussing of shared history/responsibility stemming from that history are what's really staggering about this play. I hope this picks up more productions and I hope to give those productions all of my money.
  • Forgetting

I like the mysterious nature of this piece. I'm also really into ideals surrounding purgatory so Leff caught my attention from the beginning. I appreciate how this 10 minute is complicatedly simple and simply complicated. Looking forward to reading even more of Leff's work after sinking my teeth into this one.

This is a beautiful script that hit me right in the feels. I find myself seeing parts of myself in all three characters and wanting so badly for each of them to love themselves as much as they love each other. Would love to see it produced.
  • RENATA: A POST-MATERNITY MONOLOGUE
    30 Jul. 2018
I would not cross Renata if I were you. Another solid monologue capturing someone sticking up for themselves and pointing out social wrongs and stigmas. I could read these all day, which is good because Wyndham seems to have a plethora of them.
  • More Than the Animals

This is hands down one of my favorite new monologues. Femia is always pulling at my emotions and this short piece is no exception. I would love to see this done for an audition and/or published in a book of contemporary monologues for young women (that someone is hopefully working on)!

I feel like this play has a lot of cool stuff to play with for actors and directors. I also think it's a really fun farcical take on people who care more about being woke than doing the work. Hageman's voice handles these subjects in a refreshing and "woke" manner.
  • A Boys Guide To Brutal Honesty
    28 Jul. 2018
This is a cute, fun, short little play that does not go the way we expect. I love these weird snapshots Austgen manages to capture on paper.
  • Hate Baby
    28 Jul. 2018
This is a fun play that provided some pretty awesome laughs while tackling fears and concerns of parenthood. I'd like to see this produced as both women have a lot of fun lines. Gardner's dialogue is whip smart and fast paced and I'm in love with it!
  • Emily Dickinson Talks to God, Now (A Monologue)
    28 Jul. 2018
This is a really intriguing monologue that I'd really love to see done. I appreciate that Fredricka has a lot of feelings about Emily Dickinson and we get to watch her navigate her way through them. Death has a way of bringing up a lot of unexpected thoughts and feelings (most of which don't always make sense) and I think Lawing nails that in this monologue.
