  • Darcy Parker Bruce: Thrive, Or What You Will [an epic]

Wow, L was kind enough to invite me to a first read through of this vibrant new play, and I am in big time love. L's ability to weave such complex narratives and infuse them with passion and urgency is what makes her one of my favorite new playwrights. I'm so excited to see where this piece goes, and I highly recommend it.

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: Johnny 10 Beers' Daughter

I LOVE this quiet little play. It's so brave, and powerful, and every moment so well crafted and precise. This is a play that demands an audience, and will spark important conversations for years to come. I would love to see it produced all over the country. Here is a play that is insanely necessary for our here and now. I love it.

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: Minotaurs. Toreros.

Oh wow Kato McNickle has a way of writing longing that makes me feel like that moment in the little mermaid when ursula steals ariel's voice, only the longing is that moment when we see the voice as an object being taken away. Kato's plays have a feeling of being in-between but on purpose. Everything in transition, but beautiful, but also desperate. the boy minotaur is everything my heart longs for. I want to live in this play.

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: SOMETHING FOR THE FISH

Oh Emily. This new play is magical and lyrical in all the ways in which your work shines so wonderfully. Your work is a MOOD, and the best kind. the kind that lives around an audience like the ocean. You cradle everyone in your writing, and even when it's growing dark, we know you'll get us home safe. Beautiful work.

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: The Mermaids' Parade

oh wow oh wow. This play left me on the floor. I am so invested in the future of this piece. Gina's use of language and magic is lovely, and this play is so powerful in all the right ways.

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: Veil'd

I saw this play as it was being developed by the Women's Project, and it has remained with me since then. This is a beautiful story, and Monet has a gift for writing characters you launch yourself into the moment they speak. In addition, she writes so many layers into her work it's as if the play is living and breathing all around you- and ultimately- isn't that what we want? I love this play, and I would love to see it produced (again and again!)

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: The Way North

Wow. Wow. Wow. I love Tira's work, simply for the delicate way she balances light and dark and infuses her stories with a sense of political urgency (without the soapbox). This play is like a breath of fresh frozen air. It gets to your brain and wakes you up. Not only is this a play you want to curl up with and read to the end in one sitting, it is a play for right now, and to me- that's the reason we write. I'm in love with this work, and I cannot wait to see where it goes.

  • Justine gathers a strong ensemble of voices in this fresh new play about how young women navigate a world that may not always make space for them. In parts hilarious and disturbing, Justine's The Thing That Never Happened is a play that needs to happen, soon!

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: Another Kind of Silence

It was a pleasure to spend time with this play during the 2017 Sewanee Writers' Conference. L's approach to language, and her willingness to push the boundaries of how both language and relationships are performed was not only refreshing but needed. I found myself wound around the characters of this world in a way that made my heart ache. I love how L captured the honesty of how we occupy the world in so many different ways, and Chap and Evan's budding relationship is electric. L as a playwright is gracious, and this play is wonderful. Stage it, please!

  • Darcy Parker Bruce: Black Super Hero Magic Mama

BSHMM is one of those plays you can't wait to place in the hands of the next reader. This is a play for right now, and it's a play for future generations, and one of the most magical truths about this play (and there are MANY) is that it is accessible. This is a play that opens its door wide for any audience, which is so important because it doesn't shy away from what needs to be said. A play about trauma and race and love and heartbreak, this play soars.
