  • Asher Wyndham: Red Roof (A Monologue)

A charming little monologue, drama-free -- and there is nothing wrong with that: hotel owner Lelei expresses her happiness, her love of family, her joy of watching her sons play college football and her daughter growing up to become a brave woman -- in doing so, Lawing captures not only an immigrant's story of success but showcases an American story and what makes the country a great home for a diverse population. We need more stories like this. Another winning work by Lawing that adds to a diverse body of work, rich in voices and styles.

  • Asher Wyndham: The Big Bad Wolf

Uncomfortable read, and it would be an uncomfortable little monologue to see, but theatre that reflects present day tensions and issues should do that -- make you uncomfortable. And sometimes characters are racist POSs like grandma in this monologue. This play forces you to think about those stories, those lies, those myths about Others, the marginalized, including immigrants told to children in homes across America at bedtime. Consider this for your political themed festival. It's a conversation starter, even if the audience doesn't applaud because the character is awful.

  • Asher Wyndham: Apollo's Defiance

A comic monologue that captures through the character of Apollo toxic masculinity. Makes you think about the Apollonian men of entertainment and politics, of art and history -- the celebrated, esteemed men that our culture mythologizes as genuises or god-like, free from censor or judgement -- who claim they're innocent because Truth is supposedly on their side. Evil, transgressions, incivility, acts of violence -- much of the time is now unforgivable, regardless of accomplishments and virtues. This monologue showcases a repeated bullshit defense we hear on media's stage and off stage. Check...

  • Asher Wyndham: When I Open my Eyes, a Monologue

Many guys can relate to this guy: your love not being reciprocated by a friend who's attached with someone else who's a total loser. Many don't open their heart like the guy in Boyle's monologue. I was surprised by the final moment (which is usually the case with Boyle's monologues): the guy comes across like a boy with a crush in a playground. Funny, sweet. Emotionally effective monologue for an actor auditioning for a romantic comedy or drama.

  • Asher Wyndham: WATERFALL

Heartbreaking. While authentically capturing the wrecked heart of a traumatized teen, Rachael Carnes makes a monologue as poetry of memory and reflection. A smart choice for any theater addressing gun violence.

  • Asher Wyndham: More Than the Animals

One of my top 5 favorite monologues NPX and I've read many.
So real, so raw, this raging teenage girl breaks the heart and, despite her vulgarity in a holy place, she wins you over with what she says about Love and Sex and being yourself. A middle finger to institutional Religion that antagonizes and demonizes Queer youth. A dynamic role for a kickbutt actor.

  • Asher Wyndham: Crazy Quilts

Curry has quilted us a fine dark comedy. I love this concept, the characters and how they've determined the best way to survive. They don't seem like women of privilege, they've suffered, so this kind of play differs from those stories about women (usually white and rich) seeking revenge. I would love to see what happens next! -- I would love to see a full length play with these characters!

  • Asher Wyndham: Help! I'm Trapped in a Monologue Written by Matthew Weaver!

Marvelously metatheatrical! What an unexpected story concept for a monologue: inside a monologue. This would make a great curtain closing monologue in a short play festival.
The more plays I read by madcap comedic playwight Weaver the more I wish I was trapped inside a theatre producing his plays.

  • Asher Wyndham: Art Nouveau

Lovely. I like how how this monologue surprised me and left me with a big smile and hoping the best for Jane and her family. Starts off wacky, ends up sweet. Perfect for any festival on motherhood and pregnancy.

  • Asher Wyndham: Out of the Scorpion's Nest (formerly Queen of Sad Mischance)

A stellar play, masterful playwriting, one of my favorite full-length plays on NPX. Unputdownable. A drama that is both intense and intimate, fiercely intelligent and emotional, appealing to both the head and the heart. In the hands of a lesser-skilled playwright, the debate about Shakespeare's Queen Margaret would be pedantic; however, like Stoppard's plays and Edson's WIT, Minigan's QUEEN OF SAD MISCHANCE makes its subject matter accessible while respectfully exploring a mental health issue: dementia. Producers, directors, actors, check out this play, get in touch with Minigan, make sure he...
