I understand why this was a multiple winner. Produce this play and it will win over your audience with its emotional depth, horror, poetry and surprises. The play contains an exceptional monologue for an actress; perfect for competitions. Read this play, and you will keep Kennedy on your radar.
  • Family Game Night (ten minute version)
    19 Jul. 2015
Kennedy thinks outside the box, and deals with an important subject -- end-of-life medical and funeral decisions -- with humor. Within ten-minutes, he creates a peculiar family, each member with a distinct personality and voice. One of my favorite ten-minute plays. One-of-a-kind ten-minute play -- and that's rare.

When the surprise comes, it changes everything -- it adds this unexpected layer of tension, significance, emotions -- and it's heartbreaking. A memorable piece about aging, sickness, longing, and anger.
  • Dangling Participles

Most relationships -- serious or slight -- long-term or temporary (like hook-ups) can be confusing, even uncomfortable. This play captures that with humor and intelligence, and with a few surprises, with a discussion on grammar after a one-night stand.

Why is this amazing? First, it's a lot of FUN! Have you ever gone to a ten-minute play festival and you were bored? Choose this play and it'll be a winning production. Yes, yes, the play is an intelligent examination of human sexual relationships, but it's also HEE-LARIOUS! Are you a playwriting teacher?--if so, explicate it; the structure is perfect! Are you a student actor or director?--if so, do this play. Are you an artistic director?--consider adding this play to an evening of short plays.
  • Straw, Sticks, Bricks

I would love to see this fairy-tale musical come to life. This play will be fun for young artists and their families not just because of the clever twist on a classic tale, but the discussion that you can have. Yes, Brick is right -- you have to realize your limitations -- but when you share your life with friends your dream can come true and happiness is possible! My favorite part is when the Wolf goes down the chimney and comes out of the house and calls me a hypocrite for eating bacon!

An original, heartbreaking, painful play about a father-daughter relationship. Memorable. It showcases the quirky imagination of its writer. There's a powerful monologue for an actress at the end of the play that's perfect for auditioning.
  • Two Cats Explain the Monstrous Moth Group
    15 Jul. 2015
What's in Ian Thal's Kool-Aid? Whatever it is, I want to drink it. Cats & a bat in an attic -- Thal's images are wonderfully child-like. A perfect piece for puppeteers or costumers seeking a one-of-a-kind challenge. Fabulous, freaky, f-d up -- read it, perform it, direct it.
  • Arlecchino Am Ravenous
    15 Jul. 2015
Arlecchino of Bergamo is an unforgettable, larger-than-life buffoon. From Heaven to Hell, from auto-cannibalism to clowning, the actor must showcase near madness, an animation and athleticism that is kind of like commedia del'arte to the power of 10. The playwright's logophilia -- the specificity, onomatopoeia and rhythm of Arlecchino's thought-process-in-action -- reminds me of wacky Mac Wellman.
  • The Second Annual Administration Building Takeover And Slumber Party
    15 Jul. 2015
Hey student actors! Are you disenchanted with academic administration? Then read this comedy, and perform it! This comedy is an intelligent, probing satire and criticism of administrative politics--- and it will certainly ruffle some feathers in administration. Honest, necessary political theatre just right for a daring group of actors. It's a lot of fun, with quick witty dialog. There's a pillow fight!!! The statement on student activism at the end of the play is powerful. There's no play like this.
