"Protocols" is a funny and macabre genre-twister in the time of COVID-19 (both characters, as siblings and human beings, are very relatable). Vince Gatton's writing features a strong premise that hits the ground running, stays down to earth but throws in a few big twists to make it explode off the page. I would love to see this staged in the near future. Read Vince's work, people!

Eerie in the best way possible! Wilkinson is an awesome writer who follows the "less is more" formula to a T. No physical vampirism is laid out for us to see in this ten-minute, which is what makes the tension all the greater. Reminiscent of some of the best horror, a la Shirley Jackson or Val Lewton. I'll be keeping my eye on this playwright!

Tender, complex, and wonderfully representative of an LGBT generation that we don't see often onstage. Then again, that's no surprise coming from Scott Sickles. "Crater" is a powerful ten minutes!

Due to a strong familiarity with these characters (I got to originate Fox in the first installment), "All Together Again" is a Philip Middleton Williams play that I was looking forward to immensely, and it doesn't disappoint. This sequel to "All Together Now" is a refreshing and cathartic reunion with old friends. It's filled with humor, pathos, warmth, honesty, and a terrific sense of nostalgia. It's also a perfectly strong standalone piece, for those who haven't seen/read its predecessor. Everything you expect from a PMW piece! Thank you for this one, Philip!
  • Batman Vs. The Joker on Zoom

COVID-19 got you blue? Emily Hageman's got just the trick for ya! A riotous ten-minute comedy that doesn't just satirize an iconic superhero and villain, but it also satirizes the current state of the world as well as toxic masculinity with a terrific winking eye. A solid play that so easily lends itself to being performed on Zoom! Get it produced, folks!

Radtke has an obvious love for the "Saw" movies and the so-called "torture porn" subgenre of horror, and it shows in this nifty gruesome parody that is funny, gory, and affectionate all at once with a nasty surprise at the end. Really enjoyed this one!

A brief and funny riff on the Cinderella story! Molly Wagner finally makes the Fairy Godmother's perspective in Cinderella's plight all the more hilariously clear!
  • How to Win at Checkers Every Time
    14 Apr. 2020
If Paul Rudnick wrote teen coming-of-age dramedies, you'd have Nathaniel Foster and "How to Win at Checkers Every Time". This is a sweet and touching look at mental health, the impacts it can have on relationships, and the people who are unabashedly there for us when we need them to be. Well-drawn characters, funny and moving dialogue...well done!
  • Unplug
    14 Apr. 2020
Chelsea Frandsen packs so much emotion into a short ten minutes. "Unplug" hits you in the gut right from the opening line and lingers long after the read is over. A moving approach to a difficult subject.

A wonderful exercise in misdirection! Julie Zaffarano sets you up for solid family drama and takes a HARD left turn in its last few lines. Creepy fun, all the way!
