  • Brian Cern: HOWLING AT THE MOON - a one minute play

I've always admired someone that could write a good one-minute play. The ability to encapsulate a large and complex situation into the cleanest and most succinct maner possible is an absolute gift. And still manage to capture the arc of story!

Julie Brandon has demonstrated her mastery of the art form here. Quick, clean, and to the point, it still manages to raise the big questions of life. Well done!

  • Brian Cern: IF THE WALLS COULD TALK - one minute play

A fantastic flash-bulb pop of a script. One brief moment of a story that starts on one place, and is heading in a different direction altogether. We are only here to witness this single moment.
Fun and rewarding, it leaves the audience wondering what happens after. And before!
A quick hit, with plenty of options for casting. It would be a joyous interlude to your festival.

  • Brian Cern: CRIME SPREE - 10 minute play

This light and brisk comedy is about an individual looking to shake up both his life and his relationship by making a career switch to a life of crime. Easily relatable... Who hasn't wanted to break out of a life of monotony? This will brighten a festival stage with an easy and relatable laugh.

  • Brian Cern: FLIRTING WITH TROUBLE - TWO MINUTES

What a delight... And I bet an absolute hoot to play! (If anyone does this, please cast me as Old Man Trouble... Thanks!)

A clever and witty riff on the "Looking for trouble" trope, this is a very tight piece that will get the audience with its subtle and unexpected twist. Another banger from Brandon. Well done!

  • Brian Cern: I Never Caddied for My Father

A lovely and tender piece that hits you right in the feels. While especially moving with fathers and sons, the emotions depicted are universal—a well-thought-out and executed piece by Davenport.

  • Brian Cern: THE PROPOSAL

A fun little two minute riff on expectations and miscommunication. At the end a celebration, marking the accomplishment of one life’s big milestones, a young couple discovers that they are not on the same page as to what the next milestone is.
Relatable, almost biographical, and well done.

  • Brian Cern: My Dog Has Some Thoughts About Mr. Benedict

The thing about Mr Busser’s work that gets me every time is that it’s shockingly original. Not necessarily in its concept (there are several “dog’s pov” plays). But, without fail, in the execution. “My Dog…” perfectly continues the tradition. Brilliant from the setup through conclusion; I’m now jealous of the conversations his pets must have. Beyond being a very entertaining read, it’s been a long time since Ive seen a monologue that needs to find its way into a performance more than this one.

  • Brian Cern: Brian the Comet

A few summers ago, I was given the opportunity to direct this as a part of an acting camp for middle and high schoolers. This script provided just enough of a challenge to facilitate growth in the participants while creating an hour of very well-received, providing a wonderful mix of drama and comedy (a few audience members shed tears).
Fantastic script and is very highly recommended!

  • Brian Cern: Souvenirs - One Act Play

A fun murder mystery that uses all the classic tropes... From the big empty house to the thunderstorm outside... It hits all the right buttons- the mood, the suspense... everything. A dang near perfect short play!

  • Brian Cern: NUTS TO YOU - TWO MINUTE PLAY

This is the type of script that I enjoy the most. It's imaginative, original, and leave a lot of room for the actors to spread their wings.
A couple discovers that a group of squirrels have taken over their attic and... I'm not going to ruin it for you, just pick it up and give it a read.
It's a beautiful thing when a script trusts its actors enough to give them this sort of freedom. It would be a joy to watch two actors, both skilled in timing and delivery, sink their teeth into this one.
