  • Nora Louise Syran: Dear Abigail/Dear John: An Incandescent Match

A "Love Letters" of the 18th century. You'll fall in love with these two: the self-aware and sardonic John Adams, frustrated in his fight armed only with words, and his loving and clever wife, Abigail at home, recounting the suffering first hand. Lovely juxtapositions between dialogues. Easy to produce with two spotlights to highlight the space between them, overlapping dialogue to highlight their bond. Perfect to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

  • Nora Louise Syran: The Chateau Rainbeau Holiday Door Decorating Contest

A sweet literal coming of age piece perfect for the holidays. I found the imagery of the door decorating a fun yet also poignant symbol. Moving into this new community, this door he has stepped through is an opportunity for new encounters, new friends and old and the chance to express a very rich life lived, and a lover loved -- all while competing with his foppish foil character and giving us some laughs along the way. Well done.

  • Nora Louise Syran: BRIGHTLY BURNING

An epistolary saga of a relationship between an estranged mother and daughter. This short play is well-structured between an acceptance speech and a letter which guides us firsthand through two very different perspectives and tugs at the heart. Loved the ending. The important sense of closure to a poignant piece.

  • Nora Louise Syran: PREPARATIONS

To someone who once professed not to write horror: thank you very much, Steven G Martin. I'll be turning this one over in my sleep tonight. The resignation of the older Isaac in contrast to the blind enthusiasm of the young Owen is haunting on many levels, especially today. There are so many unanswered questions. Reminded me of King Midas meets the Children of the Corn! Spooky and telling, all at once.

  • Nora Louise Syran: The Lover and the Fighter

Heyman skillfully crafts this tender coming-of-age drama through shifts in time which allow the story to reveal the characters of two boys and their shared history in fragments. The result is a portrait of true friendship shaped as much by their absence from one another as by their presence. Oh, the ache of it all. Well done.

  • Nora Louise Syran: A Passage To India

DeVita's adaptation of this beloved classic turns its lens openly on subjects EM Forster was only able, in his time, to hint at. I believe he would be proud, especially with its more satisfying conclusion; and Forster purists will be enchanted with its warm, steamy --through its evocative imagery -- and inviting narrative style. Bravo.

  • Nora Louise Syran: Final Edition

This is good copy! A super tight, never maudlin look at the last time printing "the stories that matter to someone." I appreciated Lane's touches of humor, the "journalese," the newspaper's legacy and the use of the articles they are writing in real time to tell the story of this town and how the stories we tell matter. The organized chaos at the start balances the calm resignation at the end which in turn outweighs our worry of what will happen next for them all. For us all. For our stories.

  • Nora Louise Syran: Burn Schedule

The very short play we need in these dark times. The reminder that what some would call an "Infraction" others would call "being alive." A powerful two hander and a pile of books.

  • Nora Louise Syran: Erstwhile: A Hate Story

A fun short, especially for fans of Sherlock Holmes. What's the meaning of life without one's nemesis?

  • Nora Louise Syran: O Burgled Companion, Thou Hast Pilfered Mine Heart

Lipshutz had me with the goofball names and it only got better from there. Charming. What a heist!
