  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: The Not-So-Haunted Auditorium

What seems like a cute little piece turns sinister by the end. Not only is it a fun story with a twist, but a lesson on the superstitions and traditions of the theatre. "The Not-So-Haunted Auditorium" is a spooky play perfect for young actors.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Myth

"Myth" is a beautiful, haunting piece. The vibes remind me of those of one of my favorite plays "Mr. Burns." Carbajal weaves a tale of time vs space that inspires thought on the subject of the world around us and its impending destruction. The poetry is gorgeous and frightening all at the same time and conjures up the vivid image of firelit faces as they speak of the rise of Nothing.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Collective Empathy Formation from 1968 and 2018

Who is responsible for defining empathy and importance? Why are certain narratives told over others? These are just a couple of the questions that are raised by the study participants in this play. Calley N. Anderson's writing really inspires conversations about America's metahistory, and the unlearning of inherent biases.
I had the honor of acting in this play a couple years ago, and I firmly believe that "Collective Empathy Formation from 1968 and 2018" is a play that everyone should read.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Cliché

This play is the perfect storm of silly and surreal. Whalen has written so many exciting twists and turns that the ending is a hilarious surprise that I was not expecting.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: FUNNY WORDS, a 5-minute sketch comedy

Yowza! This play is delightfully silly. The whole idea of a game show about finding the goofiest word is a genius idea for a comedy skit. And the formality of it all really adds to the humor. "Funny Words" would be such an experience to see live. I know several people who would get a kick out of this piece and I will be recommending it to them lickety-split.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Daniel Prillaman Really Likes Kittens

This is such a silly play! Knowing the work of Daniel Prillaman, I knew there was going to be some kind of wild twist. The situation is larger than life and a good piece of dark comedy.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Clueless on VHS

"Clueless on VHS" is a feels trip worth taking. In true Madison Sedlor fashion, this play contains distinct, lovable characters; well-crafted dialogue; and a situation both comical and bittersweet. I had the honor of directing this play last year, and just thinking of Christa and Phil brings emotions to my heart. Also, Christa can push me in the pool any day.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: At Last

A true testament to the release of burying the pains of the past, "At Last" is a beautiful short play. Poetic and surreal, Maripat Allen brings us a brilliant piece of magical realism. Stuck in a cycle of probability and compuslsion, He and She learn that sometimes we need help putting down our burdens. Lovely.

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Death Plans A Holiday

"Death Plans a Holiday" is a silly-goofy dark comedy full of wit and humorous physicality. There is a delightful dynamic between death, his wife, and Camille. Not to mention, I enjoyed the title's nod to "Death Takes a Holiday" and the pun "Angelo Death." Skillfully crafted. Lots of fun!

  • Hannah Lee DeFrates: Suburban Zombie Princess

This piece made me emotional. Darkly funny and bittersweet, "Suburban Zombie Princess" sheds and interesting light on female beauty standards and death.
